Area roundup: Springfield takes down Nicollet in 6

PREP SOFTBALL

Springfield 12, Nicollet 1 (6 innings)

NICOLLET — Springfield beat Nicollet 12-1 in six innings in a nonconference softball game on Tuesday.

Springfield was led by Emma Hauger who went 1 for 3 with a double, walk and two RBIs, while Brooklyn Sturm was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and Jada Reese was 1 for 2 with two walks.

Jalivia Richert got the win going six innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks. She also struck out eight.

Nicollet was led by Cason Forbrook, who went 2 for 3 with a RBI.

Leah Bode got the loss, going 5 1/3 innings and giving up 12 runs on eight hits and seven walks. She struck out four.

Springfield (11-4, 9-4) will travel to Cathedral on Thursday, while Nicollet (6-11) hosts Madelia on Thursday.

LCWM 8, Pipestone 0 (Game 1)

LCWM 6, Pipestone 1 (Game 2)

LAKE CRYSTAL — Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial swept a doubleheader against Pipestone, with the first score being 8-0 and the second being 6-1.

Avery Voges got the win in Game 1, going seven innings and giving up no runs on four hits and seven strikeouts.

In Game 2, LCWM was led by Elly Voges, who had three hits, while Addie Ahern and Grace Thorson had two hits.

Nettie Parsons got the Game 2 win by going seven innings and giving up no runs on four hits. She had 12 strikeouts.

LCWM(13-0, 6-0) will play Belle Plaine on Thursday.

Cleveland 12, Madelia 11

CLEVELAND — Cleveland beat Madelia in a Valley Conference softball game on Tuesday.

Madelia was led by Madelyn Lehman, who went 2 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs, while Corban Tatro went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk and Payton Bruns went 2 for 5.

Tatro got the loss in six innings, giving up 12 runs on 10 hits and three walks. She also struck out six.

Madelia (5-6, 1-5) will travel to Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman next Tuesday.

PREP BASEBALL

Sleepy Eye 14,

ML/GHEC/T 1

TRUMAN — Sleepy Eye beat MLGHECT 14-1 in six innings on Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game.

Sleepy Eye was led by Winsten Nienhaus, who went 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs, while Austin Uecker went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Issac Lendt went 2 for 3 with a double also for Sleepy Eye, while Marcus Martinez went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two walks.

Nienhaus also got the win on the mound in five innings, giving up no runs on one hit while adding six strikeouts.

Sleepy Eye (11-3, 10-3) will play MVL on Thursday.

GFW 12, BLHS 2

STEWART — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop beat Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 12-2 in six innings in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Tuesday.

GFW was led by Owen Swenson, who went 3 for 5 with a double and a RBI, while Dominic Rose went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk and Owen Ahlbrecht went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk.

Rose got the win in six innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks. He also struck out seven.

BLHS was led by Alex Taylor, who went 1 for 3 with a triple and a RBI, while Carson Hickle went 1 for 3. Alex Taylor got the loss in four innings, giving up six runs on seven hits and six walks. He also struck out four.

GFW (4-11, 3-10) will travel to MCW on Friday, while BLHS (0-11) will travel to St. Mary’s on Monday.

PREP TRACK AND FIELD

New Ulm boys, girls place ninth at

2AA True Team Meet

JORDAN — New Ulm placed ninth out of 10 teams in both the boys and girls sides of the Section 2AA True Team Track and Field Meet on Tuesday.

Jordan won the boys meet with a 391.5, followed by Belle Plaine (381.5), Fairmont (350), St. Peter (336.5), Fairbault (331), Marshall (293.5), Worthington (264), Waseca (257), New Ulm (209) and Tri-City United (198).

Belle Plaine won the girls side of the meet with a 456.5, followed by Marshall (429), St. Peter (398), St. Peter (398), Fairbault (367.5), TCU (369), Waseca (330), Jordan (317.5), New Ulm (218.5) and Worthington (146.5).

James Osborne led the New Ulm boys, placing second in high jump (6-2). Ethan Lieb placed fourth in high jump (5-8), while Easton Clark placed fourth in triple jump (39-7.5).

For the Eagles girls, Jesalyn Skoglund placed fifth in the high jump (4-8).

New Ulm travels to Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

PREP SOFTBALL

St. Mary’s 8, Springfield 7

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Springfield 8-7 in a Tomahawk Conference softball game on Monday.

Taylor Mathiowetz got the win in the circle for St. Mary’s, striking out three while allowing seven runs on 10 hits and nine walks in a complete game. At the plate for the Knights, Sidney Tauer was 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Josie Helget was 2 for 3 with a triple and a run scored.

Jalivia Richert took the loss for Springfield, striking out four while allowing eight runs on six hits and three walks. Brooklyn Sturm went 3 for 3 at the plate, doubling twice and scoring two runs, while Abby Groebner was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Richert was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Springfield travels to New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday.
