ST. PAUL — The UMAC recognized the Martin Luther College outdoor men’s track and field team for its well-rounded group, as it was given eight All-Conference awards on Tuesday.

The Knights finished second at the UMAC Championships this past weekend in Morris, MN, and scored 237 points, just behind UW-Superior, who totaled 253 points.

All  Conference recognition is given to individuals who finished in first or second place in an individual event and to members of relay teams who finished in first place in a relay event at the UMAC Championship.

Jeremiah Stanton was the top-scoring athlete at the meet and put on a versatile performance in four separate events of the championships. The sophomore placed first in the 400-meter hurdles (57.03 seconds) and the Long Jump (6.40 meters), while earning second place in the Triple Jump (13.69 meters).

Samuel Plocher carried his momentum from the indoor season over to outdoor by claiming first place in the High Jump (1.91 meters) and the 110-meter hurdles (15.08 seconds). Stanton and Plocher will have their seasons extended, as they compete next Friday, May 10, at UW-La Crosse to qualify for the D-III Outdoor Nationals. Stanton hopes to get into the qualifying ranks in the Triple Jump and Plocher will aim to make it in the High Jump.

Meanwhile, Martin Raasch earned All-UMAC recognition for his efforts in the 400-meter dash. The junior took second in the event after a mark of 51.55 seconds around the track.

Fifth-year senior Camden Sulzle earned his spot by placing second in the 5000-meter run (16:23.23) and the 3000-meter Steeplechase (10:09.58), while freshman Jack Pittenger received the honor for his second-place finish in the javelin throw of 44.21 meters.

Micah Schibbelhut broke his school record in the pole vault (4.14 meters), which put him in second place overall. Schibbelhut was also recognized with the MLC Individual Sportsmanship Award.

The 4×100 relay team also won their race and as a result, gave Lucas Holtz and Stephen Wietzke a nod to the All-Conference team. Holtz and Wietzke were joined in the race by Stanton and Raasch.

The men’s team also earned the Team Sportsmanship Award, an accolade awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season, including the championship event. Schibbelhut was recognized with the MLC Individual Sportsmanship Award.
