MLC women track and field team receives 5 All-Conference awards

ST. PAUL — The UMAC recognized the Martin Luther College outdoor women’s track and field team for its accomplishments at the UMAC Championships and was given five All-Conference awards on Tuesday.

The MLC women had multiple top finishes at the event in Morris, MN this past weekend including four second-place achievements. All  Conference recognition is given to individuals who finished in first or second place in an individual event and to members of relay teams who finished in first place in a relay event at the UMAC Championship.

Elise Nolte had a successful weekend after earning second place in the shot put (11.85 meters). Additionally, the junior broke the MLC women’s record in the hammer throw (38.49 meters). Melissa Neumann previously held the record of 38.38 meters set in 2017.

Maya Habben tabbed a second-place finish in the 3000-meter Steeplechase (12:38.89), while Elena Brauer also earned second after she jumped 1.52 meters in the High Jump.

Madelinn Romsdahl was the fourth Knights’ recipient of the All-UMAC team, as the thrower claimed second in the discus after a mark of 36.49 meters. Meanwhile, senior Emma Nelson was given the Individual Sportsmanship Award.

The MLC women’s coaching staff was also named the Coaching Staff of the Year after the Knights took second overall at the UMAC Championships. The women scored 127 points, trailing only UW-Superior who won with 183 points. The 2024 coaching staff consists of Head Coach Breanna Olson and assistant coaches Isaiah Degner, Benjamin Olson, Tony Ortmann, and Emma Holzhueter.
