Springfield Legion advances to State

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield American Legion Post 257 will advance to the State Legion playoffs after their 4-to-1 victory over Wabasso. The last time the Springfield American Legion Baseball team participated in the State Legion playoffs was in 1999. Isaac Fink was the winning pitcher going 6 2/3 inning allowing 3 hits and striking out 7. Tanner Vogel pitched the final 1/3 inning. Devan Liebl took the loss for Wabasso giving up 4 runs on 3 hits. Branden Flock, Decker Scheffler and Isaac Fink were the top hitters Post 257. Springfield will play two games on Thursday. The first game will be played in Paynesville beginning at 10 a.m. They will then play their second game of the day at Spicer’s baseball field beginning at 3:30 P.M. Springfield marched through the playoffs beating Redwood Falls, Luverne, Adrian, Jackson and Wabasso. Springfield will be entering the State playoffs with a 17 and 1 overall record.
