Vet memorial doesn’t work well in family park

To the editor: I was asked to accompany a friend to a Park & Rec Commission meeting back in March. Our concern was the expansion of the Vietnam Memorial that is now in German Park, we had heard that they wanted to add more benches and call that area Veteran’s Square. We had heard correct and we were there to express why we thought they should not, it really shouldn’t be there at all. When German Park was under reconstruction many of us donated money toward that endeavor. The project was to create a family oriented park for music, arts, picnics, etc. It doesn’t involve any ...

To the editor: It’s almost summer. As a substitute teacher, that means I’m free to ride my bike to the park and play pickleball with my friends all morning long. Just like when I was 10 years old, playing at the park is the highlight of my summer days. New Ulm has very good pickleball facilities and we are fortunate that our city is investing in the Lincoln Park outdoor pickleball courts this year. Pickleball is a wonderful physical and social outlet in my family’s lives and in many other New Ulm residents’ as well. It’s become very popular at the middle school, with ...

Learning in America

To the editor: The judge in Trump’s trial in New York, named (Juan) Merchan, is not a judge. He is really a political activist. He was not elected, but rather appointed by other political activists. These activists were indoctrinated, by Marxist professors, in academic institutions, throughout the country. Two-hundred years ago most of these institutions were training places for Christian ministers. Then in the 1960s the courts took prayer and the Bible out of the classroom. How has that worked out? It is this reversal, in education, which has weakened our country, to the point of no ...

One more crisis in our country at colleges

To the editor: Everything in the last 3 1/2 years that has been happening due to our administration, the Biden administration has turned into a crisis and now we have one more new crisis at colleges throughout the United States, and nobody seems to do anything to stop it and what is causing it. Here is my opinion: It should be up to the president of the United States to find out whats causing the problem and find a way to fix the problem. It’s the presidents job to keep America safe. What should the president be doing? He should have the FBI, the Department of Justice, the ...

Praying for peace and compassion

To the editor: Today I saw a picture of a little girl in Rafah. She was about my daughter’s age, right around 2 years old. Instantly I did my best to disconnect from that thought. I tried to put separation between these two girls. I thought about my daughter and this Palestinian girl… I didn’t want to connect her to my daughter because I saw the devastation around her. I saw destruction that had collapsed her world. I saw her crying father holding her lifeless body… I broke into tears, though I couldn’t imagine the depths of his pain. The War in Israel and Palestine is ...

A Mother’s Day message

To the Editor With Mother’s Day just around the corner, this is a perfect time to think about life instead of death through abortions. For all the individuals, especially democratic backers, who still favor the killing of unborn children, let me give you some thoughts to share via mail or phone for a Mother’s Day message. “Dear Mom, I would like to thank you and Dad for being pro-life and giving me a chance to be born into this world. If you had not chosen life, I could have ended up in a dumpster or land fill. I have tried to rationalize that the ‘thing’ in a woman’s ...
