ST. PAUL — State Rep. Paul Torkelson (R-Hanska) has announced he will seek re-election in the new House District 15B, which contains all or parts of Brown, Redwood and Blue Earth counties and the Lower Sioux Community.

Torkelson has represented much of this area for the past seven terms, but a new redistricting map — required after every census to meet state population patterns – changed the boundaries.

“It’s been an honor to work on behalf of residents from southwestern Minnesota, and I ask for residents’ continued support this November,” Torkelson said.

Torkelson, who has previously served as chairman of the Minnesota House Transportation Policy and Finance and Capital Investment Committee, was instrumental in securing capital and transportation investments along with long-awaited funding that will construct a four-lane Highway 14 from Nicollet to New Ulm.

During his tenure in the Minnesota House, Torkelson has also been recognized for his leadership in agricultural, water and environmental issues. He has also been a top advocate for tax relief, Second Amendment rights and pro-life initiatives.

The new House District 15B, which will take effect in January, consists of all cities in Brown and Redwood counties. Previously, the Redwood County cities of Lamberton, Revere, and Walnut Grove were placed in different House district, but Torkelson said he is pleased they have been rejoined with the other Redwood County communities as he has represented all three of these towns previously. Butternut Valley and Cambria Townships, as well as a significant portion of Judson Township, from Blue Earth County complete the new House district.

Torkelson is one of the few remaining farmers in the Minnesota Legislature. He and his wife Cindy are parents to two grown daughters.
