Fire destroys Sigel Township farm house

SIGEL TOWNSHIP — A house on Lakeside Road in Sigel Township, owned by Eugene Maurer, was lost to a fire Thursday morning.
The New Ulm Fire Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fire at 5:22 a.m. after a neighbor called in to report the fire at 17434 Lakeside Road.
Fire Chief Paul Macho said the house was fully engulfed by the time crews arrived on the scene. There were no occupants in the house, and no injuries were reported.
According to the Fire Department press released it took 45 minutes for crews to get the fire under control. The Fire Department remained on scene for 3-1/2 hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the New Ulm Fire Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal.
