Brown County District Court

• A felony 4th-degree assault-peace officer demonstrable bodily harm charge plus gross misdemeanor obstruct legal process-interfere with peace officer was filed March 9, 2023 against Uriel Guel, 24, Le Center.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police were dispatched to Nova House, 1310 German Street South at 11:17 p.m. Feb. 18, 2023 to assist Allina Ambulance with a person being aggressive with housemates and staff. Guel was transported to the New Ulm Medical Center for being aggressive, not taking his medications and appearing to be having a mental health crisis.

At the emergency room, Guel refused to go to a patient room, swearing at a nurse and insulting officers, saying things that didn’t make sense. Guel refused to have an injection and threatened to fight, making fists and threw wild punches towards an officer. One of his punches hit an officer in the left temple before three officers took him to the ground. One officer had a small amount of blood on the right side of his nose and had a red marks on top of his head.

• A felony theft charge was filed March 1, 2023 against Billie Jo Bombeck, 43, 340 Grove St., Stewart. According to court documents, New Ulm Police Corp. T. J. Ibberson responded at 6:58 p.m. Jan. 30, 2023 for an alleged theft and possible past theft at Walmart.

A store asset protection officer employee pointed out video surveillance footage of a white Pontiac Grand Prix arriving in the parking lot with two suspects at 5:35 p.m., exiting the car 20 minutes later. Then a female suspect exited the store while the male suspect continued shopping, filling a shopping cart with items.

The man proceeded to the front of the store and left the shopping card near rest rooms, then left the store with the cart, making no attempt to pay for merchandise at 7:18 p.m. Receipts for 29 items in the card totalled $1,745.27 before tax.

Video footage displayed another incident with the man on Jan. 27, 2023 with a full shopping cart that left the cart and left the store. The male suspect was described as having a small star tattoo near his right eye.

Police received phone calls identifying the man as Justin Taube and female as Bombeck after photos of the suspects were posted on the New Ulm Police Dept. Facebook page. A Kandiyohi County Probation agent said several agents positively identified the male and female suspects as Bombeck and Taube.
