Classic rock cover band coming to NU

‘On Maryland’ performs July 11 in German Park

NEW ULM — A north Iowa-based, classic rock cover band will perform Thursday, June 11 in the German Park Summer Concert series.

“On Maryland” features the music of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more starts at 7 p.m. in the amphitheater.

The band of three young men and one woman promoted for its tight musicianship and engaging live presence, has performed at a variety of venues from the Summer Smash Festival in Chicago to the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA.

New Ulm Park and Recreation Program Supervisor Ben Doeden described how he found the band.

“We put out the message on our website that we were looking for bands to perform and they reached out to us,” he said. “We listened to some of their music they sent to us and liked their style. They put a great twist on songs we knew and other music we liked.”

Doeden said Rec on the Go begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursdays in German Park with interactive games and activities for all ages. Puppet Wagon performances start at 6:15 p.m.

The Puppet Wagon and Rec on the Go will begin traveling to neighborhood parks the week of June 9.

New Ulm Municipal Band concerts will be held 7 to 8 p.m. in German Park on June 10, 24, July 1, 8, 22 and 29.

Concerts are free due to a legislative appropriation from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The North Park Splash Pad is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Sept. 7. Wading pools are open daily from 12:30 to 6 p.m. through Aug. 16.

Online registration is open for park and recreation summer programs.
