• Felony domestic assault and drug possession charges were filed Sept. 6 against Dustin C. A. Powell, 34, 116 Joyce Dr., Mankato.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police responded Sept. 5 to a physical altercation report at a New Ulm group home. Patrol officer Cory Lyons talked with a victim who had a swollen, red right eye. He said he was in the bathroom brushing his teeth when Powell grabbed him and punched him in the face with a closed fist.

The victim said the altercation happened because Powell accused him of going into his room and taking money and other items.

Patrol officer Christina Wright talked with Powell who said the victim went into his room which made him upset. Powell admitted to hitting the victim in the face. Powell was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail.

At the jail, Sgt. Charles Rasche searched Powell’s belongings and found a plastic baggie with white residue that tested positive for amphetamines. Powell was convicted of controlled substance possession and assault in Blue Earth County Nov. 18, 2016, and another assault July 30, 2019.
