HANSKA--Surrounded by the love of her family, Cheryl Rae Mosenden, age 75, passed away at her home in Hanska, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. Pastor Ben Hilding will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Hanska. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home - South Chapel in New Ulm. Visitation will continue 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Born on May 3, 1951, in New Ulm, Minnesota, to Lee and Muriel (Blomquist) Frederickson, Cheryl was a lifelong resident of the Hanska area. She graduated from New Ulm Senior High School in 1969 -- the same year she was crowned first runner-up in the Brown County Dairy Princess contest, proudly representing the local dairy industry. She went on to earn her degree from the New Ulm School of Practical Nursing.
On March 18, 1972, Cheryl was united in marriage to Larry Mosenden at the Nora Unitarian Church in Hanska. Together, they raised a son and two daughters. Throughout her life, Cheryl served her community through various roles: as an LPN at Union Hospital, and as a familiar, welcoming face at Erwin's Grocery, the Ampride convenience store, and Alliance Bank in Hanska. She was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Cheryl cherished life's simplest pleasures, and nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her family. She enjoyed time on her front porch, whether sitting and visiting with loved ones, friends, or neighbors, or decorating it for Halloween and Christmas. Shopping for flowers to decorate the porch was always a highlight of springtime. Spending time with her grandchildren, going on road trips, craft sales, farmers markets, jigsaw puzzles, The Statler Brothers, Wheel of Fortune, and Little House on the Prairie were some of her favorite things.
Her deep love for animals was evident throughout her life, especially in her love for her family pets -- Jobey, Chloe, Rudy, and her beloved grand-dog, Addie, who brought her endless joy. You could always count on Cheryl to bring fun and laughter with her sense of humor and quick wit! She was honest and kind, and always stood up for what she believed in. She lived her life following her favorite words of wisdom, "Just be yourself," and always made those around her feel comfortable and at ease.
Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (David Nelson) Mosenden of Hanska and Jayda Mosenden of Hanska; daughter-in-law, Lori Mosenden of Mankato; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Andrew (Heather Dwyer) Homan and Jace, Kaed, and Atlas; Ty (Shelby) Homan and Murphy and Ellie; Taylor (Jacob Schrom) Homan and Greyson, Brecken, and Raegan; and Jaxon Mosenden; her sisters, Emelyn (Vern) Lawson of Edmond, OK, and Tammy (Brian) Johnson of New Ulm; her brothers, Noel Frederickson of North Mankato and Ric (Janet) Frederickson of New Ulm; her brothers-in-law, Rob (Cindy) Mosenden, Daryl Mosenden, and Dave (Cami Stoesz) Mosenden; uncle Warren (Yvonne) Blomquist; aunt Alice Blomquist; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Mosenden; her son, Javen Mosenden; her parents, Lee and Muriel Frederickson; and her parents-in-law, George and Gervaise Mosenden.
Cheryl will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
