River Valley’s Hailey Hollar qualifies for state track in 4 events
MVL wins boys 4x400, River Valley girls take 4x800, 4x400 relays

MANKATO — River Valley senior Hailey Hollar qualified for the Minnesota State Track and Field Championships June 6-8 in four events at the Section 2A Track and Field Championships at Mankato West Saturday.
Hollar won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, long jump and was part of River Valley’s record-setting 4×400-meter relay team that finished first in 4:06.5.
“It’s going really good actually. This is probably one of my best meets so far. It’s been a really good day,” said Hollar after winning the 200.
Hollar edged Lester Prairie sprinter Addison Hoof in the 100 and 200 by tenths of a second.
“That’s how its been the last two years. She’s really good competition. It’s good I get to meet her in the subsection and section meets,” she added.

What made the difference?
“I knew I had to go harder around the curve to win so I did that. She really pushed me the last 100 meters in the 200,” Hollar said.
She won the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 7.5 inches, a foot longer than her previous best.
Hollar said she plans to major in rehabilitation, exercise science or psychology at the University of Minnesota Duluth next fall. She also likes playing volleyball and lifting weights.
Hollar and teammates Marley Hewitt, Marissa Pabst and Brynne Ibberson won the 4×400 in a season-best 4:06.5.
“She’s just so focused and determined. It’s a blessing having her on the team. She quietly lead by example and never complains,” said River Valley coach Heidi McCone.
The River Valley 4×800 girls relay team of Ibberson, Katie Thram, Aubrey Steffl and Pabst won in 9:51.84, a season-best.
“The kids work hard to improve each day. They know what to do and do it,” said coach McCone.
The Minnesota Valley Lutheran (MVL) boys 4×400 relay team of Justin Thompson of Nicollet, Jared Frye of Courtland, Kendrick Henry of New Ulm and Ben Halvorson of Mankato finished first with a season-best 3:31.31.
“This is a great team all together,” said Frye.
“We have a lot of trust in each other,” said Thompson.
“I’ll miss this group of seniors. They have a great work ethic,” said MVL coach Rollin Timm.
Garrett Schmidt of GFW won the boys 300 hurdles in 42:09. He also competed in the long jump, 4×100, finished second in the 110-meter hurdles, earning a state meet trip.
He plans to study medical laboratory science at MSU Mankato.
River Valley won the girls’ team title with 87 points. Janesville Waldorf Pemberton had 67 and New Richland, Hartland, Ellendale Geneva had 56.
Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Nicollet won the boys team title with 75 points. Windom Area had 67 and GFW 62.5. GFW coach Roger Rogotzke was named Section 2A Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year.
