LIPETZKY LEADS SPRINGFIELD IN 2ND LEG
BUFFALO LAKE — Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky was the medalist and helped lead the Tigers to a first-place finish in the second leg of the Tomahawk-Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament Monday at Oakdale Golf Club.
Springfield scored a 390 on the day, followed by Sleepy Eye United (413), St. James/Madelia (435), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (441), Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (447), Cedar Mountain (453), Alden-Conger (454), Wabasso (463), New Ulm Cathedral (476) and Martin County West (475). Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart was incomplete.
Lipetzky placed first individually with a score of 91, followed by SEU’s Kiara Murphy (93), Springfield’s Mavri Winkelmann (97), BLHS’s Ava Ahlbrecht (98), Springfield’s Annie Kuehn (99), SEU’s Sam Price (100), Cathedral’s Emma Hoffmann (101) and Springfield’s Kynslee Kastner, Cedar Mountain’s Bailey Woodford, GFW’s Anika Lee and SJ/M’s Devyn Paris (103). Heidi Foy led Wabasso to tie for 13th (106).
The third leg of the tournament will take place on Monday, May 11 at Fox Lake Golf Course at 10 a.m.
NEW ULM GIRLS TAKE 2ND AT 3RD BSC EVENT
WORTHINGTON — The New Ulm girls golf team tied for second out of seven teams during the third Big South Conference, Black Division golf meet of the season at GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness Club on Monday.
St. Peter won the event with a 402, followed by New Ulm (410), Marshall (410), Worthington (416), Tri-City United (417), Belle Plaine (447) and Waseca (458).
Marshall’s Dayton Webskowski was the medalist with an 80.
New Ulm was led by Lillian Kral, who shot an 87 for second. Also for New Ulm, Maddy Wellmann shot a 100 to tie for seventh, while Brogan Thordson carded a 107 for 16th and Lydia Osborne shot a 116 for 26th.

SEU BOYS WIN 2ND LEG
NEW ULM — The Sleepy Eye United boys golf team won the second leg of the Tomahawk-Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Monday at New Ulm Country Club, turning in a score of 333.
The Alden-Conger boys took second Monday with a 354, followed by Cedar Mountain (367), Springfield (378), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (381), Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (391), New Ulm Cathedral (393), St. James/Madelia (413), Martin County West (418), Wabasso (434) and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (442).
SEU’s Nolan Kucera was the boys medalist with a 74, five strokes ahead of Alden-Conger’s Ryan Hintz (79). Taking third on Monday was St. James/Madelia’s Laiken Melzer with an 82, while SEU’s Blaine Arneson shot an 83 for fourth and SEU’s Anders Coulson carded an 85 for fifth. Cedar Mountain’s Carson Schiller finished with an 86, tied for sixth with MCW’s Knox Larson.

MARSHALL — The New Ulm boys golf team took third during the third Big South Conference, Black Division golf meet of the season at Marshall Golf Club on Monday.
Marshall won the event with a 313, followed by St. Peter (319), New Ulm (333), Tri-City United (350), Waseca (352), Worthington (353) and Belle Plaine (362).
Marshall’s Deacon Wing was the medalist with a par 72.
New Ulm was led by Brayden Wendinger, who shot an 81 to take seventh, while Colton Anderson shot an 83 for ninth, Mason Buegler carded an 84 for 12th and Ethan Schmidt had an 85 for 14th.
PREP BASEBALL
CATHEDRAL 14, SLEEPY EYE 9
SLEEPY EYE — New Ulm Cathedral topped Sleepy Eye 14-9 in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Monday.
Ryler Collins was the winning pitcher for Cathedral, striking out one and walking one in 1 2/3 innings of work. Eli Anderson made the start, striking out two and allowing eight runs on 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings. At the plate, Anderson was 3 for 5 with a home run and three runs scored, while Evan Starke was 4 for 5 and Elijah Rieser was 3 for 5. Henry Forst had a home run with two RBIs, and Lane Ruch, Alex Portner and Collins each had two hits and an RBI.
Caleb Oscarson took the loss for Sleepy Eye, allowing five earned runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings. At the plate, Kaden Klein was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Kaden Netzke was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Brayden Heiderscheidt and Kater Haala each had two hits.
Cathedral (8-4, 6-2) plays at BOLD on Tuesday, while Sleepy Eye (13-2, 10-2) plays a doubleheader against Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday.
SPRINGFIELD 20, BLHS 4 (5 INNINGS)
HECTOR — Springfield cruised to a 20-4 win in five innings over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Monday.
Eli Streich earned the win for Springfield, striking out three and allowing two hits and no runs in two innings. At the plate, Madden Lendt was 4 for 4 with two doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored, while Adiel Trevino was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Eli Trevino was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Eli Streich, Carter Zamaniego, Brecken Heiling, Aiden Moriarty and Kayden Anderson each had two hits.
Springfield (12-2, 11-1) plays at Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday.
GFW 5, Wabasso 3
FAIRFAX — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Wabasso 5-3 in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Monday.
Kaden Rieke earned the win for GFW, striking out seven and allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits in 5 2/3 innings. At the plate, Owen Swenson and Rieke each had a hit and an RBI.
Jack Burns took the loss for Wabasso, striking out five and allowing five unearned runs on three hits in six innings. At the plate, Carter Olson and Brooks Bauen each had a hit and an RBI.
GFW (4-8, 4-6) hosts a doubleheader against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday, while Wabasso (3-10, 1-9) hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Tuesday.

LESTER PRAIRIE — Lester Prairie defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 13-9 in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Monday.
Merrick Mathiowetz took the loss for St. Mary’s, striking out five while allowing two earned runs on one hit and nine walks in 2 2/3 innings. At the plate, Landry Folkens was 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Jack Windschitl was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Mathiowetz was 2 for 3 with a home run with three RBIs, and Adam Braulick was 2 for 5.
St. Mary’s (7-8, 7-5) plays a doubleheader against Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

HECTOR — Springfield defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 10-8 in a Tomahawk Division softball game on Monday.
Regan Beadell earned the win for Springfield, striking out six while allowing two earned runs on nine hits in seven innings. At the plate, Makay Winkelmann was 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, while Beadell and Abby Groebner each had two hits, a triple and an RBI. Isabella Groebner was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, and Molly Jacobson had two hits with a triple.
Springfield (9-6, 8-2) hosts Sleepy Eye on Tuesday.
ST. MARY’S 17, LESTER PRAIRIE 2 (4 INNINGS)
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s rolled Lester Prairie 17-2 in four innings in a Tomahawk Division softball game on Monday.
Taylor Mathiowetz earned the win in the circle, striking out eight with four walks and one hit allowed. At the plate, Eva Schweiss had a double and four runs scored, while Jaylyn Sellner had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored. Mathiowetz had a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Natalie Zarn had a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
St. Mary’s (7-7, 6-5) hosts Martin County West on Tuesday.

WABASSO — Wabasso cruised by Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 15-0 in four innings in a Tomahawk Division softball game on Monday.
Aylah Jenniges earned the win for the Rabbits, striking out three and allowing two hits in four innings. At the plate, Audrey Johnson was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Macy Rohlik was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Cassie Bliss added three hits and three runs scored.
Ella Fitzpatrick took the loss for GFW, striking out three and allowing 12 hits and nine earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. At the plate, Micahl Nachreiener and Addison Donnay each had a hit.
Wabasso (11-4, 8-4) plays a doubleheader at Lester Prairie on Tuesday, while GFW (3-10, 2-10) plays a doubleheader at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday.

MADELIA — Madelia fell 8-3 to Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey but topped Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 8-5 in a nonconference softball split doubleheader on Monday.
Emily Jacobs took the loss in Game 1, striking out three and allowing one earned run on nine hits in a complete game. At the plate, Lauryn Grev was 2 for 3, while Emma Christensen was was 3 for 3 with an RBi. Makayla Sorenson had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Addison Odegard earned the win for Madelia in Game 2, striking out seven while allowing four earned runs on 11 hits in a complete game. At the plate, Sorenson was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Emmy Johnson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Kellie Koberoski was 2 for 3 with an RBi and a run scored, and Alicia Lugo was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

NEW ULM 6, MANKATO WEST 1
MANKATO — New Ulm defeated Mankato East 5-2 and Mankato West 6-1 in a pair of nonconference boys tennis matches on Monday.
Charlie Weidman (No. 1 singles), Isaac Dittmer (No. 3 singles), Griffin Lehne (No. 4 singles) all went 2-0 on the day, as did the No. 2 doubles pairing of Everet Brown and Ryan Johnson, with none of them dropping a set. Dan Brownfield (No. 2 singles), Wyatt Feucht and Thomas Lehne (No. 1 doubles) and Hayden Owens and Cole Frederick (No. 3 doubles) all went 1-1.
