Weekend area roundup: Springfield shuts out Hayfield, tops JCC

PREP BASEBALL

Springfield 10, Hayfield 0 (5 innings)

ST. PETER — Springfield won a pair of nonconference baseball games Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College, defeating Hayfield 10-0 and Jackson County Central 10-9.

The game against Hayfield ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Noah Neperman earned the shutout for the Tigers over Hayfield, pitching all five innings and allowed two hits and no walks while striking out four.

Aiden Moriarty led the Tigers at the plate against Hayfield, going 3 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs, while Jakob Nachreiner was 3 for 4, Kade Nachreiner was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored and Jackson Ludewig was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

In the win over the JCC, the Tigers fell behind 9-8 after a four-run bottom of the sixth. But the Tigers plated two runs in the top of the seventh to come back before Ludewig shut the door in relief.

Ludewig earned the mound win over JCC in two innings, allowing two hits and a walk for one earned run while striking out five. Brecken Heiling was 2 for 2 with two runs scored to lead the Tigers at the plate, while Lucas Milbrath was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Moriarty was 1 for 2 with a triple, two walks and an RBI and Neperman was 1 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.

The Tigers improved to 5-0 with the wins on Saturday.

PREP SOFTBALL

Madelia 15, BLHS 2 (5 innings)

HECTOR — Madelia cruised to a 15-2 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Saturday morning in a nonconference softball game.

The game ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Alicia Lugo led the Blackhawks at the plate, going 4 for 4 with three runs scored, while Madelyn Lehman was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored and Grace Tatro was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Makayla Sorenson added a double and two runs scored for Madelia.

Corban Tatro got the win in the circle, allowing five hits and a walk for two earned runs while striking out nine.

Late Friday

Nicollet 14, RRC/WWG 9

WALNUT GROVE — The Nicollet Raiders powered past the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 14-9 on Friday evening in a nonconference softball game.

Jazmyn Goettlicher led the Raiders at the plate, going 2 for 5 with a homer, three RBIs and three runs scored. Cason Forbrook added a double, a triple and three runs scored for Nicollet, while Chloe Kachelmeier was 1 for 2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Leah Bode got the win in the circle in all seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and eight walks while striking out six.
