Area roundup: New Ulm’s Prahl advances in sections

GIRLS TENNIS

ST. PETER — New Ulm’s Karlee Prahl advance from Section 2AA South Subsection individual girls tennis meet Thursday at Gustavus Adolphus College, winning over Prior Lake’s Sarah Langridge 6-3, 6-0 in her final match.

Prahl defeated Mankato West’s Emily Kodet and St. Peter’s Zetta Haugen on her way to the finals. No other New Ulm tennis players advanced in the meet.

Prahl will play Tuesday against the winners of the Section 2AA North Subsection at 9 a.m. at Gustavus Adolphus College.

PREP FOOTBALL

GFW 28, Cleveland 0

CLEVELAND — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop shut out Cleveland 28-0 in a Mid Southeast District, West Subdistrict football game Thursday.

Justin Messner had 136 yards and a touchdown on 16 rushes for the Thunderbirds, with Easton Taylor getting 59 yards and a TD on 12 rushes. Owen Swenson had 52 yards on 13 rushes, and Garret Schmidt had a rushing touchdown. Dominic Rose had two completions for 49 yards and a touchdown, with one pass going for 29 yards and a score to Schmidt.

On defense for GFW, Taylor had 3.5 tackles, while Tristain Kruger had three tackles.

GFW (6-1) hosts Norwood-Young America on Wednesday.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Redwood Valley 3, Wabasso 2

WABASSO — Redwood Valley came back to win 24-26, 24-26, 25-15, 25-12, 15-11 against Wabasso in a nonconference volleyball match Thursday.

Alivia Olson had 12 kills and two aces for the rabbits, while Camryn Irlbeck had nine kills and two blocks. Sara Carlson had 29 set assists, one ace and eight digs, and Avery Carlson had 21 digs and three aces. Audrey Johnson added 21 digs.

Wabasso (15-8) travels to play Cleveland on Tuesday.
