Brewers blank Grizzlies in non-league game

NEW ULM — Mitch Bockenstedt threw four perfect innings of baseball and the New Ulm Brewers broke a close game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to down Searles 6-0 Sunday afternoon in a seven-inning, non-league amateur baseball game at Johnson Park.

Bockenstedt struck out six of the 12 batters that he faced in his four-inning stint.

Adam Slander pitched two innings and allowed both of the Grizzlies’ hits in the game. Braden Zimmerman finished the seventh inning and fanned one.

Casey Lux took the loss for Searles. He went one inning and allowed no hits.

Nick Dewanz went four inning and allowed one run, with Tony Geiger throwing the sixth and being charged with four runs.

Josh Seidl and Jordan Guggisberg each had two hits for the Brewers, while J.T. Hoffmann had two RBIs.

The Brewers, who play Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Stark, took a 1-0 lead in the first when Hoffmann singled and later came around to score on an Andrew Peters groundout.

New Ulm added another run in the fourth when Peters led off with a double and later scored on an error.

The Grizzlies, who host Hanska next Sunday at 1 p.m., got their first hit oif the game off of the left-handed Slander when Geiger doubled with one out. But Slander set down the next two batters to end the threat.

The Brewers then added four runs in the bottom of the sixth when Guggisberg singled and Corey Schaefer singled with one out.

After a strikeout, Hoffmann had a two-run double off of Geiger for a 4-0 lead.

A Seidl single and a walk added the last two runs of the game.
