Weekend area roundup: Tigers take 2 at Irish Yard

Springfield 7, Redwood Valley 0 (Game 1)

Springfield 5, BOLD 0 (Game 2)

MILROY — Springfield defeated Redwood Valley 7-0 and BOLD 5-0 in a prep baseball invite at Irish Yard on Saturday.

Jakob Nachreiner took home the win for the Tigers in Game 1, striking out 10 and allowing three hits. On offense, Kade Nachreiner and Aiden Moriarty each had two hits for Springfield, with Moriarty adding two RBIs. Jackson Ludewig also had a hit and two RBIs.

Noah Neperman got the win for Springfield in Game 2, striking out 10 while allowing four hits. At the plate for Springfield, Russell Beers, Lucas Milbrath and Brecken Heiling each had hits, while Jakob Nachreiner had two RBIs.

Springfield plays at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday.

PREP SOFTBALL

New Ulm 4, Andover 3 (Game 1)

Andover 4, New Ulm 2 (Game 2)

ANDOVER — New Ulm split an away nonconference softball doubleheader at Andover on Saturday, winning the first game 4-2 and falling in the second game 4-2.

Ramsey Hopp got the win in Game 1 for the Eagles, pitching seven innings with four strikeouts, three hits and no earned runs. At the plate, Hopp added a triple and an RBI, while Kenzie Enter was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Maddie Backer added a hit, an RBI and a run scored for New Ulm.

Hopp took the loss in Game 2, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts and one earned run. Backer was 1 for 3 at the plate with a triple and a run scored, while Berkley Wilfahrt was 1 for 2.

New Ulm (10-1) plays at St. Peter on Monday.

Cathedral 17, Fairmont 8

Windom 7, Cathedral 3

WINDOM — New Ulm Cathedral went 1-1 at a Windom softball tournament on Saturday, defeating Fairmont 17-8 and falling to Windom Area 7-3.

In the win over Fairmont, Abbey Hillesheim pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits and four walks while striking out eight. Ava Schmid was 3 for 5 with a homer, a double, five RBIs and four runs scored to lead Cathedral, while Jaylin Hartness was 3 for 4 and Madelyn Haala was 2 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Jayde Altermatt took the loss against Windom in two innings, allowing three hits and three walks for five runs while striking out one. Hillesheim was 2 for 2 with two doubles and an RBI, while Schmid was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

LATE FRIDAY

St. Clair/Loyola 6,

Nicollet 4

NICOLLET — St. Clair/Loyola downed Nicollet 6-4 in a Valley Conference softball game on Saturday.

Leah Bode took the loss for the Raiders, striking out six while allowing three earned runs on eight hits. Bode was also 3 of 4 with a triple and two RBIs at the plate, while Zoey Rengstorf was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Nicollet will host Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Tuesday.

MVL boys place first, girls take second at

Sibley East meet

ARLINGTON — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys placed first out of seven teams and the girls placed second in a track and field meet at Sibley East high school on Friday.

The MVL boys scored a 174, followed by Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (148.5), Sibley East (139), Lester Prairie (62), Minneapolis Roosevelt (51.5), Le Sueur-Henderson (44.5) and New Life Academy of Woodbury (43.5)

Sibley East won the girls side of the meet with a 223, followed by MVL (135), GFW (91), LSH (89) Minneapolis Roosevelt (48), NLAW (38) and Lester Prairie (22).

For the MVL boys, Josh Bentler placed first in the 100 (11.62) and second in the 200 (23.82), while Elliot Hoffman placed first in the 1,600 (4:49.25) and second in the 800 (2:06.84). Will Kaesermann placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.58) and the 300-meter hurdles (43.42), and the 4×100 relay team of Jaden Helget, Justin Thompson, Ben Halvorson and Bentler took first place (44.72).

The 4×400 relay team of Thompson, Kendrick Henry, Jared Frey and Kaesermann placed first (3:42.77), and Helget placed first in the pole vault (11). Halvorson and Kaesermann placed first (40-4.5) and second (39-11.5) in triple jump, respectively.

For the GFW boys, Justin Messner placed first in the 200 (23.68) and 400 (53.17) and second in the 100 (11.80), while Garrett Schmidt placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (44.42) and second in long jump (18-11). Alex Johnson placed first in discus (150-4) and second in shot put (47-2.5). Easton Taylor won the long jump (19-1.5).

For the MVL girls, Claudia Weisensel won the 100-meter hurdles (17.36) and the 300-meter hurdles (51.44) while Emily Brown placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.57). The 4×100 relay team of Brown, Avery Hopp, Avery Freier and Tiphany Dos Santos placed first (52.99), as well as the 4×200 relay team of Brown, Freier, Weisensel and Hopp (1:53.22). Ellie Kaesermann won the triple jump (30-9.5).

The GFW girls were led by Kinley Bruns, who placed first in the 100 (13.48) and the 400 (1:02.94). Trinity Stearns placed first in the high jump (4-8) while Kelby Bruns placed second in triple jump (29-10.75).
