East meet

NEW ULM — The New Ulm girls golf team placed fifth out of six teams at a Big South Conference East Division girls golf meet at the New Ulm Country Club on Monday.

Blue Earth Area placed first with a 359, followed by Fairmont (291), Waseca (414), St. Peter (432), New Ulm (479) and Jackson County Central (520).

BEA’s Payten Gudahl was the medalist with an 83.

New Ulm’s Elyse Dreckman tied for 16th with a 112. New Ulm also saw Rory Gieseke shoot a 115 to tie for 21st, while Sophia Cooke and Brooklyn Hagberg tied for 24th with a 126.

New Ulm is at a Fairmont invitational on Tuesday.

BOYS GOLF

New Ulm boys take

2nd at JCC

JACKSON — The New Ulm boys golf team placed second out of six teams at a Big South Conference East Division boys golf meet on Monday.

St. Peter won with a 320, followed by New Ulm (342), Blue Earth Area (345), Jackson County Central (346), Fairmont (355) and Waseca (364).

St. Peter’s Kaiden Brovold was the medalist with a 76, while his teammate Anthony Nicolai took second (78) and New Ulm’s Will Fossen placed third (80). Brecken Neuman shot an 86 for New Ulm to tie for 10th, while Will Weidman and Mason Buegler each shot an 88 to tie for 16th.

New Ulm is at a Fairmont invitational on Tuesday.

PREP SOFTBALL

New Ulm 10, St. Peter 0

(6 innings)

ST. PETER — New Ulm beat St. Peter 10-0 in six innings if a Big South Conference softball game on Monday.

New Ulm was led by Ramsey Hopp, who went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, while Gracie Linbo went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Amber Lee went 1 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs also for the Eagles.

Hopp got the win in six innings, giving up no runs on five hits and two walks. She also struck out eight.

New Ulm (11-1, 7-0) will play Worthington on Thursday.

Cathedral 11, BLHS 0

(5 innings)

STEWART — New Ulm Cathedral beat Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 11-0 in five innings in a Tomahawk Conference softball game on Monday.

Cathedral was led by Jenna Hotovec, who went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs, while Kiah Helget went 2 for 4 with a double and three runs scored.

Abbey Hillesheim got the win, giving up no runs on three hits while striking out four.

BLHS was led by Sadie Kirtz, who went 2 for 2.

Chloe Schultz was the losing pitcher, giving up eight hits and three walks while striking out four.

Cathedral (15-1, 13-0) will play Springfield on Thursday. BLHS (2-11, 2-7) will travel to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Tuesday.

Sleepy Eye 15, GFW 3 (

5 innings)

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye beat Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 15-3 in five innings in a Tomahawk Conference softball game on Monday.

Sleepy Eye was led by Katelyn Tauer who went 2 for 4 with a home run with two RBIs, while Taylor Berkner went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Callie Evers went 1 for 1 with three walks.

Katelyn Tauer got the win, going five innings and giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks. She also struck out eight.

GFW was led by Ella Nachriener, who went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while Katelyn Beranek went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk. Micahl Nachreiner went 1 for 2 with a double also for GFW.

Ellison Fitzpatrick got the loss for GFW going four innings, giving up 12 runs on 12 hits and nine walks.

GFW (0-11) will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

Sleepy Eye 14,

Redwood Valley 4

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye beat Redwood Valley 14-4 in 5 innings in a nonconference softball game on Monday.

Sleepy Eye was led by Callie Evers, who went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs, while Paige Haala went 2 for 4 with a double and Katelyn Tauer went 1 for 2 with two walks and two RBIs.

Taylor Berkner got the win in five innings, giving up one run on three hits and four walks. She also struck out five.

Sleepy Eye (10-6, 7-6) will host Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman on Tuesday. Redwood Valley (1-8, 1-7) will play Montevideo on Tuesday.

Nicollet 11, AC/GE 1

(5 innings)

NICOLLET — Nicollet downed Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 11-1 in five innings in a Valley Conference softball game on Monday.

Leah Bode got the win for the Raiders, striking out four while allowing one hit and one earned run. Eleanore Carleton was 1 for 2 with a double and three RBIs for Nicollet, while Jasmyn Goettlicher was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Carson Forbrook also had a hit and two RBIs.

Nicollet hosts Madelia on Thursday.

LCWM 6, Fairmont 1

FAIRMONT — Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial beat Fairmont 6-1 in a nonconference softball game on Monday.

LCWM was led by Avery Voges, who went 3 for 3, while Sydney Kramer had two hits.

Voges also got the win on the mound going seven innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out eight.

LCWM (11-0, 6-0) will play a doubleheader against Pipestone Area on Tuesday, while Fairmont (8-9, 4-4) will travel to Worthington on Tuesday.

PREP BASEBALL

MVL 5, Wabasso 3

WABASSO — Minnesota Valley Lutheran beat Wabasso 5-3 in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Monday.

MVL was led by Josh Carlovsky and Bradyn Kube, who both had a double and single with one RBI. Josh Vander Plas had a double and single with an RBI and a stolen base.

Zach Riederer got the win in six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and one walk. He also struck out nine.

Wabasso was led by Joe Liebl, who had two doubles and a walk, while Zach Skoblik had two singles and Jaxson Wagner had a double and a single.

Zach Skoblik got the loss in five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out four.

MVL (6-8, 5-7) will travel to Sleepy Eye on Thursday, while Wabasso (2-11, 2-10) will play St. Mary’s on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 7, GFW 3

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 7-3 in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game Monday evening.

Austin Uecker got the win on the mound for Sleepy Eye, striking out five while allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks. Marcus Martinez pitched three innings in relief, striking out eight while allowing two hits and no runs with two walks. At the plate for the Indians, Winsten Nienhaus went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Isaac Lednt was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Carson Uecker added a hit and two RBIs, while Cody Schultz had two RBIs.

Sam Berkner took the loss for GFW, striking out two while allowing six earned runs on eight hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings. Layton Uecker-Hamre had a hit and a run scored, while Will Bastian was 2 for 3. Kaden Rieke had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Sleepy Eye travels to Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman on Tuesday. GFW travels to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

Madelia 11, NRHEG 1

NEW RICHLAND — Madelia downed New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 11-1 Monday in a nonconference baseball game.

Tony Zaleski earned the win for Madelia, striking out 11 while allowing three hits and one unearned run. At the plate for the Blackhawks, Eric Anderson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Tate Becker was 1 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Zaleski added a hit and two RBIs.

Madelia hosts St. James on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

Prior Lake 4, New Ulm 3

PRIOR LAKE — Prior Lake held off New Ulm 4-3 in a nonconference boys tennis meet on Monday.

Charlie Weidman (No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3), Gideon Heins (No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3) and Ian Schotzko (6-3, 2-6, 7-5) each earned wins for New Ulm, which hosts Redwood Valley on Thursday.
