NEW ULM — It is just five games into the regular amateur baseball season and the Tomahawk East League, but this weekend may be a very important one for the New Ulm Brewers.

The Brewers, after a 4-3 loss to Searles Monday afternoon in a TEL game, have now lost two straight games after an 18-5 home defeat by the Hutchinson Huskies on Friday.

And more important, the Brewers’ loss to Searles was New Ulm’s first league loss after going unbeaten in the Tomahawk East League last season.

The Brewers now sit at 2-3 and have three games at home this weekend — the first two of which are non-league games on Friday and Saturday — before what is now setting up to be a huge Tomahawk East League game on Sunday afternoon.

On Friday the Brewers host the Atwater Chuckers at 7:30 p.m.

While this is a game that the Brewers would like to win to get back on the right track, their game on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. carries more importance when they host the Stark Longhorns.

Right now the Longhorns — along with Hanska and Springfield — are 2-0 in league play.

Searles is 2-1. The Brewers are bunched at 1-1 with Fairfax, Lamberton and Courtland.

Sunday’s game with Stark and then Wednesday’s home game with Courtland at 7:30 p.m. at Johnson Park are going to be needed wins.

A loss Sunday would put the Brewers at 1-2 in TEL play and an early two games behind the Longhorns at 3-0.

New Ulm then ends a seven-game home stand next Friday, June 9, when they go out of the TEL and host North Mankato at 7:30 pm.

All games are at Johnson Park and all have free admission.

Starting at $4.65/week.
