TEL roundup: Hines homers 3 times, lifts Long Sox by Lakers

SUNDAY

LAMBERTON 10, HANSKA 5

HANSKA — Jack Hines homered three times on Sunday to help carry the Lamberton Long Sox by the Tomahawk East League-leading Hanska Lakers 10-5 in a TEL amateur baseball game.

A six-run first inning gave the Long Sox all the offense they’d end up needing, with one of Hines’ homers coming during it.

The Long Sox got to Lakers right-hander Sam Knowles right away as Neil Eichten walked to start the game. Will Carlson singled before Hines homered to right to make it 3-0. Jake Wahl kept the hits coming for Lamberton with a single before an error allowed Hudsen Jenniges to reach, still without an out in the inning.

A fielder’s choice got the first out, but another error kept the Long Sox running bases before a groundout by Ashton Squires scored the fourth run of the inning. A two-run single by Isaac Jenniges made it 6-0.

The teams traded a run in the fourth before Hanska made a comeback attempt in the sixth when it plated four runs. During that inning, Colin Anderson singled in two runs, while Sawyer Olson doubled to make it a 7-4 game. Despite that sixth inning, the Long Sox added three more runs in the eighth and held on for the win.

Quintyn Vold earned the mound win, allowing four hits and three walks for five runs, four earned, while striking out 12 in six innings. Hines finished 4 for 5 with three homers, a double and seven RBIs to lead Lamberton at the plate, while Neil Eichten and Jake Wahl each went 2 for 5.

Knowles took the loss in all nine innings, allowing nine runs, six earned, on 13 hits and one walk while striking out three. Brady Mosenden was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Hanska bats.

Lamberton improved to 6-4 in the TEL with the win, while Hanska fell to 9-2 in the TEL.

NEW ULM 14, FAIRFAX 1 (7 INNINGS)

FAIRFAX — The New Ulm Brewers piled on 14 hits to rout the Fairfax Cardinals 14-1 on Sunday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Ayden Jensen was 2 for 3 with three RBIs to lead the Brewers at the plate, while Lucas Suess was 2 for 2 with a walk, an RBI and three runs scored. Also for New Ulm, Cole Ranweiler was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Sam Keckeisen was 2 for 3 with two walks, an RBI and three runs scored, Noel Davilla was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Jace Schaefer was 2 for 5 with an RBI and Ethan Thompson was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Tate Becker also had a hit and an RBI for the Brewers, while Al Flor was hit by a pitch and had an RBI. Adam Slander got the win for the Brewers in four innings of work, allowing two hits and one walk for one run while striking out two.

Luke Bastian led Fairfax at the plate, going 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI. Andrew Willemssen took the loss for Fairfax in four innings, allowing 11 hits and three walks for 11 runs, eight earned, while striking out two.

The Brewers moved to 8-1 in the TEL with the victory, while Fairfax dropped to 2-8 in league play.

SPRINGFIELD 7, ESSIG 2

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Tigers topped the Essig Bluejays 7-2 on Sunday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Tyler Hach and Madden Lendt led the attack for Springfield as both hitters went 3 for 4 with a double apiece. Hach added three RBIs, while Lendt had one. Jordan Milbrath also was 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored for Springfield. Justin Haugo got the win in five innings, allowing three hits and one walk for no runs while striking out three.

Erich Prokosch led the Essig bats, going 3 for 4 with a double, while Caleb Forstner was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Zach Riederer took the loss, allowing five hits and two walks for three runs, two earned, while striking out five in six innings.

Springfield moved to 8-2 in the TEL with the win, while Essig dropped to 2-9 in the TEL.

COURTLAND 11, SEARLES 3

SEARLES — The Courtland Cubs downed the Searles Grizzlies 11-3 on Sunday evening in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Jaden Drill was 2 for 4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs to lead the Cubs in the win, while Nolan Drill was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and Jackson Bode was 2 for 5 with a double and three runs scored. Teagan Kamm was 2 for 2 with a homer, a walk and three RBIs also for Courtland. Josh Giefer got the win for Courtland in eight innings of work, allowing nine hits and two walks for three runs, two earned, while striking out three.

Josh Johnson led Searles at the plate, going 2 for 4, while Isaiah Rieser was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Kolton Achman took the loss for Searles, going four innings and allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out three.

Courtland moved to 9-2 with the win, while Searles fell to 4-6.

ST. JAMES 8, SLEEPY EYE 2

ST. JAMES — The St. James Athletics topped the Sleepy Eye Indians 8-2 on Sunday evening in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Bransen Peterson earned the complete-game win for the A’s, allowing nine hits and no walks for two runs while striking out four. Petersen also was 2 for 4 at the plate, while Max Westman was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Chase Bottin was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Cody Schultz took the loss on the hill for Sleepy Eye, allowing six runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks while fanning one in 3 1/3 innings. Luke Mielke, Nick Mielke and Cole Eckstein all were 2 for 4 at the plate to lead Sleepy Eye, with one of Luke Mielke’s hits being a double.

St. James moved to 3-7 in the TEL with the win, while Sleepy Eye fell to 3-7.

LEAVENWORTH 5, STARK 2

STARK — The Leavenworth Orioles defeated the Stark Longhorns 5-2 on Sunday evening in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Zach Kelly got the win in three innings, allowing one hit and one walk for no runs while striking out one. Jackson Huiras was 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and an RBI to lead the Orioles at the plate, while Jevan Richert was 1 for 2 with a homer, three walks and two RBIs and Dylan Hillesheim was 1 for 3 with a double and two walks.

Kessler Severson took the loss for Stark in two innings, allowing three runs on three hits and six walks while striking out three. Arian Saenz was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI to lead Stark at the plate.

Leavenworth moved to 3-5 in the TEL with the win, while Stark dropped to 4-7 in the TEL.

FRIDAY

COURTLAND 9, STARK 8

STARK — Nolan Drill led the Courtland Cubs over the Stark Longhorns on Friday night 9-8 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Drill was 2 for 4 with a homer, a doubkle and five RBIs, while Carter Lang and Chase Meyer each had a two-run homer. Drill also got the win on the hill, allowing six hits and one walk for three runs, two earned, while striking out four.

Adam Sellner worked hard to rally the Longhorns with a pair of late home runs, but Jackson Bode held on and secured the save with a strikeout. Sellner finished 4 for 5 with two homers, a double, seven RBIs and three runs scored, while Nick Labat was 2 for 4, Arian Saenz was 2 for 4 and Zach Haala was 2 for 5 with a double. Haala took the pitching loss in four innings, allowing three hits and four walks for five runs, four earned, while striking out four.

SLEEPY EYE 9, SEARLES 1

SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye Indians ran by the Searles Grizzlies 8-1 on Friday night in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Marcus Martinez got the complete-game win on the mound for the Indians, allowing three hits and two walks for one earned run while striking out four. Jon Petermann was 2 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs for Sleepy Eye, while Matt Mielke was 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI and Cody Schultz was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Kaleb Butenhoff was 2 for 3 also for Sleepy Eye, while Thor Weiss was 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Casey Lux led the Grizzlies at the plate, going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Ethan Mixdorf took the loss in 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and two walks for six runs, five earned, while striking out three.
