Area roundup: Hopp, Eagles top Chisago Lakes

PREP SOFTBALL

New Ulm 2, Chisago Lakes 1

LINDSTROM — New Ulm defeated Chisago Lakes 2-1 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Ramsey Hopp picked up the win with 10 strikeouts and no walks while giving up four hits. At the plate, Hopp was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Gracie Linbo was 1 for 2 with a stolen base. Kenzie Enter had a hit and a run scored.

New Ulm (7-2) will play Saturday at a tournament in Lakeville.

Sleepy Eye 16, RRC 7

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye took down Red Rock Central 16-7 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Lydia Helget got the win in the circle. Taylor Berkner was 3 for 5 at the plate with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Indians, while Katelyn Tauer was 3 for 5 with a run scored and four RBIs. Also for Sleepy Eye, Paige Haala was 2 for 3 with a double, four runs scored and an RBI, while Helget was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Sleepy Eye travels to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday.

Mountain Lake 4, Madelia 1

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake downed Madelia 4-1 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Corban Tatro took the loss in the circle, getting five strikeouts while allowing three hits, four walks and no earned runs.

At the plate, Makayla Sorenson was 2 for 4 with a double to lead Madelia, while Lauryn Grev had a hit and a walk. Ashlynn Sweet had the team’s lone run scored.

Madelia (3-12, 1-5) plays next Tuesday in Cleveland.

PREP BASEBALL

Little Falls 12, New Ulm 0

ST. CLOUD — Little Falls shut out New Ulm 12-0 on Friday in a St. Cloud prep baseball tourney.

Ethan Thompson had New Ulm’s lone hit in the game, while Ian Brudelie drew a walk. Kaden Larson took the loss for the Eagles in 2 2/3 innings of work, giving up five earned runs on two hits and eight walks while striking out three.

Tournament action resumes Saturday morning.

PREP GOLF

SEU boys 168, Cathedral 181

SEU girls 202, Cathedral Inc.

SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye United boys earned a 168-181 win over New Ulm Cathedral on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference golf meet at Sleepy Eye Golf Club on Friday.

The SEU girls shot a 202 at the meet, while the Cathedral girls team was incomplete.

Carson Erickson from SEU led the boys with a 35, followed by SEU’s Kaleb Weiss with a 40. Weiss was followed by Cathedral’s Owen Strei (41), SEU’s Blaine Arneson (44) and Cathedral’s Will Marti (45).

SEU’s Liz Schwint came in first for the girls with a 46. In second was SEU’s Meriden Andres (49), while Cathedral’s Alaina Blomberg came in third (51). SEU’s Kiara Murphy placed fourth (53), followed by SEU’s Sam Price in fifth (54).
