NEW ULM — Twelve-year-old New Ulm gymnast Adaline Schaefer recently competed at Regionals in Notre Dame, Indiana with her team from Owatonna Gymnastics Club and earned a spot on the Midwest Regional Team.

The Midwest Regional Team is made up of the top eight scoring gymnasts in each level throughout the region. These athletes move on to Nationals to compete against some of the top gymnasts in the country. To qualify individually, a gymnast must earn at least a 33.5 all-around score at the regional competition.

The entire Owatonna Gymnastics Club team qualified for Nationals, with Adaline Schaefer also earning an individual spot on the Midwest Regional Team. Schaefer was also the only gymnast from Minnesota to qualify for the Midwest Regional Team in her division this season.

Schaefer and her Owatonna team also earned a second-place team finish at Regionals. Individually, Schaefer placed second all-around (37.725), taking third in vault (9.55), third on bars (9.15), fifth on beam (9.525) and sixth on the floor (9.5).

This season marked Schaefer’s first year competing with both the National Gymnastics Association (NGA) and Owatonna Gymnastics Club. She competes with Owatonna from January through June.

From November through March, Schaefer competes locally with New Ulm Turner Gymnastics Academy, where she also qualified for State, held in Rochester, Minnesota at the end of February, in the All-Around and earned third place on Beam.

Schaefer has been involved in gymnastics since she was 18 months old. Outside of gymnastics, she also participates in softball, volleyball, track, and weightlifting, and enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Nationals will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida from June 4-9.

To help offset travel expenses, a bake sale fundraiser will be held featuring Schaefer alongside fellow Owatonna Gymnastics Club teammate Bella Arndt. The girls are also partnering with White Boxer Coffee Company and will be selling bags of coffee during the fundraiser.

The fundraiser will be held at Schaefer Bakehaus, located at 914 5th St N in New Ulm, on Saturday, May 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Those unable to attend but wishing to support the girls can make a donation by dropping off cash donations at Schaefer Bakehaus or through Venmo at @holly-schaefer-18.

The Schaefer family would also like to thank everyone who has donated so far or stopped by previous fundraisers to support the girls on their way to Nationals.

Starting at $4.50/week.
