Area roundup: Eagles take down Trojans in 5-setter

WORTHINGTON — New Ulm topped Worthington in a five-set Section 2AAA volleyball match on Thursday night, winning 25-17, 19-25, 25-16, 16-25, 15-13.

Amber Lee led the Eagles with 41 set assists, 10 digs, three kills and two blocks, while Laura Bertrang had 11 kills, 11 blocks and seven digs. Ella Landsteiner had 10 kills also for New Ulm, while Afton Hulke had eight kills and 14 digs, Ella Freiderich had 19 digs, Gracie Linbo had nine digs, Erin Wise had seven digs and Emma Gieseke added three kills.

New Ulm (13-10) travels to Redwood Falls for its regular season finale on Monday.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

MLC 1, UMM 0

MORRIS — Martin Luther College’s goal by Megan Martin in the 55th minute was enough to give the Knights a 1-0 win over the University of Minnesota Morris on Thursday afternoon in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer game.

The Knights outshot UMM 21-11 overall and 10-4 in shots on goal, with MLC goalie Grace Sievert stopping those four shots on goal.

Martin’s goal was assisted on by Samantha Colvin.

MLC (5-8-3, 3-6-2) next plays at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Crown College.

MEN’S SOCCER

MLC 0, UMM 0

MORRIS — The Martin Luther College men’s soccer team battled the University of Minnesota Morris to a 0-0 tie on Thursday afternoon in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer game.

UMM outshot the Knights 17-11 overall. MLC goalie Adam Rosenbaum had seven saves, while MLC also took seven shots on goal.

Midfielder Xander Heiman led the Knights’ attack with three shots on goal.

MLC (1-13-2, 0-10-1) is at Crown College for a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
