TEL roundup: Hanska bats hot in rout of Cubs
HANSKA 12, COURTLAND 1 (8 INNINGS)
COURTLAND — The Hanska Lakers’ bats were hot on Sunday as they racked up 13 hits in a 12-1 win over the Courtland Cubs in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.
The game ended in eight innings due to the 10-run lead rule.
Sam Knowles was 3 for 5 with a double and four RBIs to lead the Lakers bats, while Kevin Larson was 2 for 3 with two walks and three runs scored. Chris Knowles was 2 for 4 with a double also for Hanska, while Brady Mosenden was 2 for 5 with two doubles and five RBIs and Brock Wellmann had a solo homer.
Aaron Portner got the mound win in five innings, allowing six hits and three walks for one earned run while striking out four. Sam Knowles also delivered in relief work, allowing just one hit and one walk in three innings while striking out three.
The Cubs were led by Teagan Kamm, who was 2 for 3 with a walk, while Nolan Drill was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Ansen Dulas took the loss for the Cubs in 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and a walk for six runs, two earned, while striking out four.
Hanska, now 3-0 in the TEL and 3-1 overall, hosts Fairfax on Friday in TEL action, while Courtland, now 3-2 in the TEL and 4-2 overall, is at St. James for a 7:30 p.m. game on June 10.
SEARLES 9, FAIRFAX 3
SEARLES — Kasey Kuck homered as the Searles Grizzlies downed the Fairfax Cardinals 9-3 on Sunday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.
Kuck finished 2 for 4 with his homer and two RBIs to help lead Searles, while Graham Glaser was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Nathan Vance was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Tony Geiger was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Mark Schommer earned the pitching win in relief, allowing one hit and no walks for no runs while striking out six in four innings.
Andrew Peterson was 3 for 3 to lead the Fairfax bats, while Elway Berg was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Jacob Meyer was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Koufax Rose took the loss in relief, allowing five hits and two walks for four earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Searles, now 1-2 in the TEL, is at Stark for a 7:30 p.m. TEL game Wednesday. Fairfax, now 0-4 in the TEL, hosts Essig at 1 p.m. Sunday.
STARK 5, GIBBON 1
GIBBON — Adam Sellner homered and pitched four shutout innings as the Stark Longhorns topped the Gibbon Reds 5-1 on Sunday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.
Sellner finished 1 for 3 at the plate with a second-inning homer and two RBIs, while Zach Haala led the Stark bats by going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Sellner allowed two hits and one walk in his four innings while striking out six, and Jon Kopacek pitched the final three innings to earn the save, allowing one hit and one walk for one run while striking out one.
Aaron Bruns led the Gibbon bats, going 2 for 4, while Jason Berger had an RBI. Dominic Rose took the loss in six innings of work, allowing five hits and two walks for two earned runs while striking out 11.
Stark, now 2-1 in TEL play, hosts Searles in a TEL game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Gibbon, now 1-2 in the TEL, travels to St. James for a 7:30 p.m. TEL game on Wednesday.
LEAVENWORTH 5, SPRINGFIELD 4
SPRINGFIELD — Thomas Hesse’s RBI single in the 10th inning lifted the Leavenworth Orioles to a 5-4 win over the the Springfield Tigers on Sunday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.
Dylan Hillesheim reached in the 10th on a one-out single, stole second and was then driven in by Hesse for the go-ahead run.
Hillesheim was 3 for 5 with an RBI to lead the Orioles at the plate, while Austin Uecker was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Hesse was 2 for 4 with his RBI in the 10th. Jevan Richert was 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI also for Leavenworth. Jackson Ludewig got the win in two innings of relief, allowing no hits and four walks for no runs while striking out four.
Russell Beers led the Tigers bats by going 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI, while Aiden Moriarty was 3 for 5 with an RBI, Jordan Milbrath was 3 for 6 with an RBI and Ryan Sturm was 2 for 4. Tyler Dick took the loss in four innings of relief, allowing two hits and no walks for one earned run while striking out three.
LAMBERTON 2, SLEEPY EYE 1
SLEEPY EYE — The Lamberton Long Sox held off the Sleepy Eye Indians 2-1 on Sunday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.
Lamberton was led at the plate by Hudsen Jenniges, who was 2 for 4 with a double, while Jake Erickson was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Jenniges also got the pitching win, going the first three innings and allowing three hits and two walks for one earned run while striking out two.
Sleepy Eye was led by Matt Mielke and Jon Petermann, who both were 2 for 5, while Luke Mielke was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Marcus Martinez pitched a strong eight innings despite taking the loss, allowing four hits and four walks for two runs, one earned, while striking out two.
Lamberton is now 2-1 in the TEL and hosts Leavenworth in a TEL game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, while Sleepy Eye falls to 0-3 in the TEL and travels to Essig for a 7:30 p.m. TEL game on Wednesday.
