Area roundup: Glover grabs 1,000th rebound in win for Madelia

Madelia 63, TCU 60

MONTGOMERY — Ja’Sean Glover pulled in his 1,000th career rebound on Monday night in a 63-60 nonconference boys’ basketball win over Tri-City United.

Also for Madelia, Blake Altenburg led the way with 29 points, while Armando Zamora had eight assists and four steals.

Madelia (8-8) is at Alden on Tuesday night.

Sleepy Eye 65,

Cedar Mountain 58

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye took down Cedar Mountain 65-58 on Monday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

The Indians were led by Erizen Traconis, who has 16 points and five assists. Mason Sellner added 14 points for Sleepy Eye, while Marcus Martinez had 14 points and four rebounds.

Cedar Mountain was led by Branndon Pendleton’s 20 points, while Dakota Pendleton-Sam had 14 points and four assists and Max Pendleton had 12 points and three steals. Cooper Freitag led the Cougars on the boards with seven rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (4-16, 1-11) is at Winthrop to take on Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday night, while Cedar Mountain (6-11, 5-6) hosts Wabasso on Tuesday night.

LSH 62, MVL 52

LE SUEUR — Le Sueur-Henderson topped Minnesota Valley Lutheran 62-52 on Monday night in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Cole Thompson led MVL with 11 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals, while Ben Pearson had 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Garrett Parker added 8 points and nine rebounds for MVL.

MVL (4-15) is at Sleepy Eye on Thursday night.

Girls’ Basketball

MVL 78, GHEC 54

GRANADA — Minnesota Valley Lutheran coasted to a 78-54 win over Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Monday night in nonconference girls’ basketball action.

MVL was led by Abbie Riederer’s 22 points, six rebounds and six steals, while Mia Johnson had 15 points and Ella Mullenbach had 14. Sam Dalueg had seven steals and four assists also for MVL, while Ella Schlei had six rebounds and Kaylee Hunter had five assists.

GHEC was led by Katelyn Diegnau’s 26 points.

MVL (17-4) hosts Nicollet on Tuesday night.

Springfield 75,

Cathedral 48

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield topped New Ulm Cathedral 75-48 on Monday night in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Springfield was led by Tori Roiger’s 21 points, while Emma Hauger had 14 points. Brooklyn Sturm also had a big game for the Tigers with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, while Megan Ploeger had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Maddy Digmann had 6 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Cathedral was led by Jenna Hotovec’s 20 points, while Margo Finstad had 10 points.

Springfield (9-12, 7-8) is at Granada for a nonconference game on Thursday night, while Cathedral (3-16, 0-15) is at Mankato Loyola for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday.

MCW 68, Nicollet 65

SHERBURN — Martin County West held off Nicollet on Monday night for a 68-65 win in Valley Conference girls’ basketball action.

Marah Hulke led the Raiders with 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Hayley Selby had 10 points and nine rebounds. Tiana Sand had 10 points and four rebounds also for Nicollet.

MCW was led by Emily Anderson’s 26 points.

Nicollet (13-9) is at MVL for a 7:30 p.m. game Tuesday.

St. Clair 89, Madelia 45

MADELIA — St. Clair cruised to an 89-45 win over Madelia on Monday night in Valley Conference girls’ basketball action.

Madelia was led by Katherine DeVlaeminck’s 16 points, while Ollie Glover had 13 points.

St. Clair was led by Brooklin Hinze’s 24 points.

Madelia (1-19, 0-14) hosts Immanuel Lutheran for a 6:30 p.m. game Tuesday.

Wabasso 63, Cedar Mountain 47

WABASSO — Wabasso topped Cedar Mountain 63-47 on Monday night in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Wabasso was led by Bella Brand’s 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Anistatia Smith had 14 points and six rebounds. Avery Carlson had 11 rebounds and eight assists also for the Rabbits, while Sophia Hanna had 9 points.

No stats were reported for Cedar Mountain.

Wabasso (8-15, 5-10) hosts Springfield on Monday, while Cedar Mountain (5-18, 2-13) is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday night.
