NEW ULM — Rain caused a premature end to the 2021 Junior Upper Midwest Classic and there will be no action on Sunday.

The tournament was canceled at about 6 p.m. on Saturday after rain washed away most of Saturday’s play. Rain was also forcast for Sunday and that was a big factor.

New Ulm’s Vern Kitzberger, who is also the Second District Legion Baseball Director, said that they waited as long as they could to make a final decision. He said that travel times for many of the teams and field play from the rain on Saturday also played a major factor in the decision.

Junior Legion Gold went 2-1 in the tournament, but the team finished third in pool play due to a tiebreaker. VFW Silver finished the tournament 0-3.
