St. Mary’s, Wabasso split doubleheader

St. Mary’s 12, Wabasso 9, 9 inn.

SLEEPY EYE — Wabasso and Sleepy Eye Mary’s split a Tomahawk Conference baseball doubleheader on Thursday.

In the first game, Carter Benz got the win, striking out six in seven innings. Will Carlson and Benz each went 2 for 4 and Benz had two RBIs.

Carson Domeier took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits. Patrick Hoffmann was 2 for 3.

In the second game, Mark Anderson pitched three innings for the win. He didn’t allow a run or a hit and he struck out three.

Domeier was 3 for 6 with two doubles and two RBIs and Spencer Hoffmann was 2 for 6. Owen Weiss had three hits, a double and two RBIs and Joey Herzog was 2 for 5 with an RBI.

Adryen Tietz pitched 4 1/3 innings in the loss. Carlson, Ty Altermatt and Matt Evink each went 2 for 5.

Sleepy Eye 10, Springfield 0

SPRINGFIELD — Sleepy Eye blanked Springfield in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Thursday.

Arian Saenz got the win, giving up one hit in six innings. Jackson Huiras and Mason Sellner each had two hits.

T/ML/GHEC 10, Madelia 5

MADELIA — Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain defeated Madelia 10-5 on Thursday in Valley Conference baseball action.

Madelia was led by Dylan Grev, who was 3 for 4 with a run scored. Ethan Arndt and Carter Florez each went 2 for 3, with Florez adding a pair of RBIs.

SEU boys 158, Springfield 181, MVL 214

MVL girls 211, SEU 267

SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye United boys golf team and the Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls golf team picked a Tomahawk Conference win on Thursday.

On the boys side, SEUs Carson Erickson was the medalist with a 36 as SEU shot a season-best score of 158. Toby Weiss finished with a 39 for SEU, Mavrick Winkelmann shot a 39 for Springfield, and Ben Pearson led MVL with a 44.

On the girls side, MVLs Nadine Clobes and Abbie Riederer shared co-medalist honors with a 49. Liz Schwint led SEU with a 55.

All three teams will compete at the Tomahawk Conference meet on Monday, with the boys competing in Sanborn and the girls competing in Sleepy Eye.

Fairmont girls 369, JCC 404, NU 416

Fairmont boys 335, JCC 345, New Ulm 349

JACKSON — The New Ulm girls golf team finished third behind Fairmont and Jackson County Central on Thursday in Big South Conference action.

Paige Dreckman led New Ulm with a 102 and Kate Frauenholtz shot a 103.

On the boys side, New Ulms Evan Griebel was the medalist with a 79 and Kyle Esser shot an 87.

BLHS boys 205, GFW 221

WINTHROP — Logan Martin shot a 45 to earn medalist honors for the Gibbon-Fairfax-Wintrop boys golf team, but Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart earned the win. Cale Petersen and Hunter Schultz each shot a 48 for BLHS.

Marti Jacobson shot a 55 for the GFW girls and Ava Ahlbrecht shot a 69.

SANBORN — The Red Rock Central boys golf team defeated Wabasso and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Thursday.

For the boys, RRCs Justin Klabunde led the way with a 42. Jayden Carlson and Jayden Goblirsch led Wabasso with a 48.

On the girls side, Wabasso’s Chloe Rohlik shot a 57.

New Ulm 7, RV 0

REDWOOD FALLS — New Ulm defeated Redwood Valley 7-0 in Big South Conference tennis on Thursday. Isaac Blumhoefer (6-1, 6-0), Max Gieseke (6-1, 6-2), Joey Gag (6-2, 6-0) and Ben Brownfield (6-1, 6-1) swept the singles competition. Nathaniel Janssen and Leo Waloch won 6-0, 6-1 at first doubles and the other two matches were forfeits.

New Ulm 6, Waseca

WASECA — New Ulm defeated Waseca in a Big South Conference softball game on Thursday.

Miranda Suess earned the win, striking out seven and walking four. She also went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a home run.

Ella Friederich was 1 for 3 with a run scored, a stolen base and an RBI. Maddi O’Connor had a hit, two RBIs, and a stolen base.

New Ulm plays Benilde-St. Margaret’s at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Caswell Park.

Springfield 6, Sleepy Eye 5

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Conference softball game.

Jaeli Richert allowed five runs in seven innings for the win. She also had two hits. Brooklyn Sturm had two hits and a triple.

MCW 21, Madelia 6

MADELIA — Martin County West crushed Madelia in a Valley Conference softball game on Thursday.

Madelia finished the game with only three hits and Corban Tatro allowed 20 hits and 21 runs in five innings to take the loss.

BLHS 4, MVL 1

BLHS 6, MVL 1

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart swept Minnesota Valley Lutheran in Tomahawk Conference softball action on Thursday.

In the first game, Haley Ditch had two hits for the Chargers. Becca Kuck struck out 12 but allowed four runs in six innings.

Kuck took the loss in the second game, allowing six runs in seven innings. She struck out five. MVL had just two hits in the game.

Wabasso 3, St. Mary’s 1

St. Mary’s 12, Wabasso 4

WABASSO — Wabasso split with Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in a Tomahawk Conference softball doubleheader on Thursday.

For Wabasso, Sarah Franta got the win, giving up one run on one hit. Kylee Fogelson had a double with an RBI.

In the second game, Franta had a pair of singles. Sophia Hanna, Kelsey Frank, and Madeline Hanna each had a single. Avery Carlson was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Nicollet 10, Cleveland 0

CLEVELAND — Nicollet’s Marah Hulke struck out 10 and didn’t allow a hit as the Raiders won the Valley Conference softball game.

Leah Bode had three hits and three RBIs and Hayley Selby was 2 for 5. Hulke had two RBIs.
