Prep roundup: New Ulm tennis blanks River Valley, MVL, Cathedral volleyball teams pick up a win

New Ulm 7, River Valley 0

NEW ULM — New Ulm swept River Valley on Thursday in a Big South Conference girls’ tennis match.

Emma Maudal won at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3, Makia Otto won at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2, Abby Hietala won at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 and Hannah Blumhoefer won at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2.

Kellyn Emerson and Malia Emerson won at No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-1, Abbey Frauenholtz and Bethany Janssen won at No. 2 doubles 6-0, 6-0 and Carli Botten and Ashtyn Wiltscheck won at No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-0.

New Ulm will host St. Peter on Tuesday.

Prep volleyball

JCC 3, New Ulm 0

JACKSON — Jackson County Central defeated New Ulm 25-12, 25-21, 25-22 on Thursday in a Big South Conference volleyball match.

Izzy Wolkow had 13 set assists for the Eagles. Nora Windschill had five digs and two kills, Lizzy Shaul had five digs, Olivia Wolkow added three kills and Ellie Bute had three kills with three digs.

New Ulm (0-3) will play at Worthington on Monday.

MVL 3, BLHS 0

HECTOR — Lauren Paulsen had 15 digs, seven kills and two ace blocks as Minnesota Valley Lutheran swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-23, 25-15, 25-9 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Paulsen also had 15 digs and seven kills. Maddie Pearson had 25 set assists. Mara Weisensel added 10 kills with four ace blocks. Haley Herfendal added six kills with eight digs.

MVL will play in the Mankato West Tournament on Saturday.

Cathedral 3, GFW 2

WINTHROP — New Ulm Cathedral remained perfect as the Greyhounds edged Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 15-25, 25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 15-13 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Sarah Mohr had 11 kills and 18 digs for the Greyhounds. Karlie Gieseke added 36 set assists, 25 digs and four kills. Josie Pautzke had 18 digs and Mary Herzog added 12 kills.

Miah Busse had 19 kills and 21 digs. Hannah Panitzke added 21 digs. Hannah Thorsen had 17 set assists and Jordan Rettig had 16 set assists.

Cathedral (4-0) will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday. GFW will participate in the Montevideo Tournament on Saturday.

St. Mary’s 3, Springfield 2

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s edged Springfield 25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-12 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Brittany Rogotzke had 12 digs for Springfield. Eva Mack had 20 set assists and six digs. Cora Wahl added 13 kills and Taylor Augustin had 10 kills.

St. Mary’s did not report any stats.

Springfield (0-4, 0-1) will host Fulda on Tuesday. St. Mary’s will play in the Sleepy Eye Tournament. The Knights will also be at the same tournament.

LCWM 3, Madelia 0

MADELIA — Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial swept Madelia 25-19, 29-27 25-19 on Thursday in a Valley Conference volleyball match.

Alayna DeLaCruz had 12 kills for the Blackhawks and Blair Van Zee added six kills. Lillian Mual had 12 digs and 10 set assists, Alayna Champlin added 12 digs, Faith Bergeman had 12 set assists.

Madelia will participate in the Sleepy Eye Invitational on Saturday.

SWC 3, Sibley East 0

ARLINGTON — Southwest Minnesota Christian swept Sibley East 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 on Thursday in a Minnesota River Conference volleyball match.

Rachel Rettmann had 11 kills and two digs. Madi Krentz added seven set assists, eight kills, one dig and a block. Morgan Matthews had 15 set assists and two digs.

Sibley East (1-2, 0-1) will play in the Mankato West Tournament at Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday.

Prep cross-country

TRACY — The Springfield/Cedar Mountain cross-country team participated in a cross-country meet on Thursday. The girls finished in fourth place out of eight teams while the boys were sixth out of 12 teams.

Lilly McCone finished 10th with a time of 22:04 and Ellie Tonn was 15th with a time of 22:37.

Mitchell Buerkle finished fourth with a time of 17:50 and Elijah Kirschstein finished 24th with a time of 19:15.
