“We had the bats going the first game, we also played some pretty solid defense with few errors and came out in the clutch positions,” Seidl said.

Faribault scored one run in the second inning and rallied to bring two runners across the plate to tie the game in the third inning.

New Ulm’s starting pitcher Jack Fairbairn walked runners to first and second with no outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, before throwing a wild pitch, putting both runners in scoring position. Luke Scheid stole home, after a pitching change from Faribault, in the eight inning to add an insurance run for New Ulm.

Scheid was credited with the win after pitching four innings in relief giving up one run and one strikeout with two hits.

New Ulm Blue faced Jordan immediately following its win, a game that took three hours and seven minutes to complete, in the second round of elimination play.

New Ulm struck in the sixth inning on three straight singles from Fairbairn, Hansen and Seidl to load the bases with no outs. A walk by Sweere and Shane Esser would bring in both runners for New Ulm.

Jordan answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, off three hits to go up 10-2.

New Ulm added two runs in the seventh and eighth innings but fell short losing 16-6.

“We all were not as focused in the second game, the heat got to us,” Seidl said.
