A child is a gift from above

To the editor: Our state legislature is dominated by the Democratic Party at this time. In committee, they have been attempting to codify abortion into our state constitution. Since there is no committee hearing being offered on this subject, they are attaching this to their ERA [equal rights amendment]. How on earth can you call for an equal rights amendment and condoning murdering a child, even unto the date of birth? I am adamantly pro-life, and I am going to give you my view on the attempt to codify abortion into the Minnesota State Constitution. As I think of each and every one ...

What is happening to our history?

To the editor: I would like to thank Curtis Dahlin for his letter to the editor; hopefully it will open a few eyes to what is happening to our history. I would like to go one step further and ask, ‘What is happening to Fort Ridgely or should I say not happening?’ Fort Ridgely was a United States Army Post used to train union soldiers to fight in the Civil War. In August of 1862, Fort Ridgely was attacked by 800 or more Dakota Warriors. The Fort was under siege for two days with only a 19-year-old lieutenant and 21 soldiers to defend it. The commander and most of the soldiers had ...

Unwarranted Change to MN’S State Flag

To the editor: Let me see a show of hands of those in Minnesota that requested a Change in the Design of the Minnesota state flag? Thought so. Your state representatives have decided that our flag needed to be “redesigned” because somehow, someone may find it offensive. Folks, if we would change or remove all perceived offensive matter .... you don’t have to embrace the existing design but we sure can learn from it. Our so-called lawmakers put together a community and decided what is best for Minnesota. Minnesota had zero say in this decision. The new design tells no story, no ...

Attend your precinct caucus

To the editor: As leaders of the local Republican and Democratic parties in Brown County, we encourage you to attend your 2024 precinct caucus on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The precinct caucus is the first step in the Minnesota political process. It is a gathering of neighbors with similar political beliefs who come together to talk about issues, learn about the candidates running for office, make recommendations for changes in your party’s platform, and choose delegates to represent you at upcoming county conventions and beyond. Minnesotans are fortunate to have this grassroots-level ...

Free Palestine

To the editor: With all of the news circulating about the Israel/Palestine conflict, I feel that many news stations are getting the facts of the matter incorrectly, and many people are only seeing the side that Israel wants them to see. Super Bowl Sunday was a day where many people celebrated and enjoyed life, however, life in Gaza could not be more different. The neo-colonial ethnostate that is Israel, ruthlessly and without care for the innocent launched strike upon strike on the city of Rafah. During the horrid siege on the people of Gaza, Palestinians were assured by Israel that ...

Solve abortion before other world problems

To the editor: Its been 51 years since Roe v Wade, and I am still amazed at the blasé / ‘apathetic attitude’ our society places on this carnage. There are probably several reasons for this attitude; primary of course is that we don’t take God seriously. Another would be that we don’t actually watch an actual abortion. Mandatory viewing of Dr. Bernard Nathanson’s ‘Eclipse of Reason’ which shows a little boy being summarily dismembered, would probably change many mind’s over this issue. Another ‘action neutralizer’ comes from leaders who preach that we have ...
