To the editor: I couldn’t help but comment on the March 28 front page article on Senator Klobuchar gracing her presence in the City of New Ulm for the announcement that the New Ulm Airport will receive $2.5 MILLION in free money from the United States Federal Budget to construct a new crosswind runway. I was somewhat surprised Tina Smith didn’t show up as well. To the editor: I would like to voice my opinion on the current abortion arguments making news recently. My feelings come from my experience as a woman who birthed three daughters and a son; while having a miscarriage between the second and third. I also grew up in a single-parent family. To the editor: Current Minnesota Legislature Re: Life issues In 2023, many changes occurred in the state of Minnesota (The Pro act law) concerning abortion including the fact that women no longer need to be provided information about their babies gestational age, abortion no longer needs to be performed in a hospital or by a physician and that babies can be aborted up to birth. To the editor: What is the problem with the school boards and the teachers’ union as they insist upon bringing adult materials into the school libraries for all ages to access from elementary to high school? Example: pornographic books that has no business of being in schools. To the editor: Appalling that the “new norm” in America to achieve fame is to be a killer with mass shootings, be it at schools,malls, grocery stores, churches, ballgames and parades. No longer can a family attend any special event without gunfire to wound many and kill others. State is taking control of local zoning laws?

To the editor: Our state legislature is considering two bills - AF 4009 and SF 3964 — that would eliminate local control over single family zoning in Minnesota. Decisions on parking and housing aesthetics — as well as the subdivision of lots in your neighborhood — would be controlled by the state. This legislation is needed according to bill sponsors for ‘the common good.’ Cities around the state — like New Ulm — would essentially lose complete control of city zoning and land use authority with this legislation.
