Hope, common sense and faith in the face of coronavirus

To the editor:

I walk through town on my way to the ATM, and New Ulm seems full of ghosts. Everyone locked in their cars, and everything deserted.

One thing that made my heart leap for joy were the business owners who have hung American flags in their windows. It makes me think of the old World War 2 motto “Business As Usual.”

As Americans and New Ulm adapt to a new world in the face of coronavirus, one resident urges you to have faith and common sense in the face of Coronavirus. We’re facing an unprecedented payout from the American government after most of us have received our 2019 tax returns already. I urge people to invest in an emergency kit like those recommended by FEMA with the unexpected money, especially if you can spend the money locally. If it’s not coronavirus, it will be floods, fire, and other natural disasters.

Be kind to your fellow neighbor, and weigh certain purchases against the greater need of the nation like face masks. Emergency responders and medical personnel need them, along with the National Guard. God Bless the USA, and God bless the medical personnel, soldiers, and first responders in our country. Always answer adversity with faith, a lesson my Korean War veteran grandfather often taught me. We are stronger together, not apart.
