Judges should not be picking winners
To the editor:
As a Minnesotan I am embarrassed by our Senator Franken suggesting he will not vote to support Judge Gorsuch for the Supreme Court because Gorsuch “often sided with business over employees.”
Judges are not charged with picking winners and losers. Their charge is to apply the law to the facts of the specific case before them. They take an oath to uphold the rule of law, whether they agree with the law or not.
Judge Gorsuch demonstrated he will do that by saying, and I paraphrase, if you agree with every decision you make you are probably a bad judge!
