The Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 4 p.m. April 4 reporting a single vehicle crash on County Road 20 north of 850th Avenue in Boon Lake Township, approximately 11 miles northeast of Buffalo Lake.

Responders on scene located a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Caleb Fox, 17 of Stewart. The vehicle had struck two utility poles and was found partially off the ground leaning against one of the poles. Fox was able to free himself from the vehicle and was found walking towards a residence. He was transported by ambulance to Hutchinson Health with serious injuries.

Fox indicated that he had swerved to miss an animal in the roadway and entered the ditch. He continued driving in the ditch while attempting to get back onto the road. Fox struck a utility pole causing the vehicle to roll over and strike a second pole. The vehicle was severely damaged.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Buffalo Lake Fire Department, the Buffalo Lake Ambulance, the Buffalo Lake Police Department and McLeod Cooperative Power.

This crash remain under investigation.
