Brown County 4-H Youth move on to State Project Bowl Competition

The Brown County 4-H Senior Rabbit Bowl Team, Chloe Johnson, Calleigh Frederickson, Annika Wyffels, Greta Bailey, and Taylor Wyczawski, will make another appearance at the State Competition on April 6.

Five local 4-H youth are headed to the State Project Bowl Competition in April.

Saturday, March 16 nearly 60 teams from across central and southwestern gathered for the 4-H Regional Project Bowl in Redwood Falls. This competition challenges teams of three to six youth by testing their knowledge

on a variety of animal science topics including dog, horse, poultry, rabbit and general livestock.

In Redwood Falls, fifteen youth represented Brown County 4-H, testing their skills through quizzes in one-on-one and open rounds. The first participant to ‘buzz in’ with the correct answer earned points for their team, and each team was coached by 4-H volunteers.

“4-H Project Bowl not only gives youth the knowledge to excel in a given species or project area, but provides them with communications, teamwork, and studying skills, to name a few,” said Janessa Palmer, Brown County Extension Educator, “These experiences contribute to their success in school, future areas of study in college, and eventual careers,” and added that these learning opportunities are open to all youth in grades K-12, regardless of past 4-H or species knowledge. The Dairy Intermediate team consisting of April Schroeder, Aiden Schroeder, Dustin Portner, took third place in their division. The Dairy Senior team was made up of Rachel Portner, Jared Portner, and Alex Schroeder and placed sixth.

The Rabbit Junior team including Amos Beranek, Levi Bailey, Lillian Brandes, and Kylie Fischer also earned their third place spot.

Chloe Johnson, Calleigh Frederickson, Annika Wyffels, Greta Bailey, and Taylor Wyczawski made up the second-place team in the Rabbit Senior division and will go on to compete at the Minnesota State Project Bowl

competition on April 6 in Sauk Rapids.
