NEW ULM — Put on your costumes, grab your candy buckets and show off your spooky spirit.

Halloween kicked into gear in and around Legacy Chiropractic on 16th South Street Thursday.

Children donned their costumes and some of their parents did too in the business and parking lot outside.

The spooky stuff kicks into high gear downtown at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Mabel’s Merkantil, 204 N. Minnesota St. featuring hosts Trunk or Treat.

Minnesota Street will be blocked off from 10 a.m. to noon to make room for a petting zoo with mini buffalo, goats, lambs and rabbits. Treats will be handed out from trunks along the street. A Jersey’s Sweet Spot ice cream truck will sell treats. Children can sign up for ice cream door prizes too.

Mabel’s Merkantil co-owner Kelly Munce said it’s important to know that the petting zoo will be held on Minnesota Street, outside the store this year.

“In prior years, we had the petting zoo on our Milford Acres farm near Essig. Not this year. It’s downtown, just outside the store,” Munce said.

The Messy Apron Bakery will pop-up inside the store.

In conjunction with the Halloween Hop, the Halloween Scavenger Hunt will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Brown County Historical Society Museum.

Families are invited to stroll through town from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and trick or treat at businesses participating in the Halloween Hope. Treats, fun photo ops and some surprises are in store.

The Minnesota Valley Action Council Thrift Store hosts Trunk or Treat from noon to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of 1607 and 1609 South Broadway.

The 11th Annual New Ulm Nightmares Haunted Houses at the Brown County Fairgrounds continues 7-10 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 31, Nov. 1. Two all new haunted houses, Mrs. Olson’s School for the Unusual and Tripoli Brothers Cirkus.
