GFW board to interview candidates
GIBBON — The Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) School Board is scheduled to interview appointed board members and select two board members Monday, Aug. 21 in the elementary early childhood room.
School board appointment candidates are Kathi Gruenhagen, Bernie Sauter, Mason Schmidt and Mark Turtle of Gibbon and Dustin Berger and George Grosam of Fairfax.
A resolution to elect Gibbon and Fairfax board members to fill board member terms expiring Dec. 31, 2026 in a Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2023 special election is on the meeting agenda.
School board November election candidates from Gibbon are Gruenhagen, Sauter, Casey Prochniak and Mark Turtle. Fairfax November election candidates are Berger and Grosam.
Consent agenda items include hiring middle school teacher Isaiah Miron, MS/HS teacher Nicholas Berg, Kelly Krzmarzick as head baseball coach, assistant football coach Brody Hentges, junior high football coach Damian Hopp and junior high volleyball coach Jennifer Palmer.
Resignations include middle/high school special education teacher Meghan Sandberg effective Aug. 8, 2023; band director Miranda Kelley July 10, 2023 and choir director Stacie Lehman July 31, 2023.
In her board report, elementary principal Jennifer Thompson thanked many people for volunteering hundreds of hours of time and said more than 1,200 people attended four musical productions of Beauty and the Beast.
Thompson said two weeks of K-4 summer school included hands-on activities, reading, math, art and music classes.
Facility manager Brain Weir said he is working with Hoffman Election to replace 26 football field lights that are out. Weir said Daiken Applied will fix two Winthrop school boilers in late August.
Donations to T-Bird Community Arts include $130 from Gwen Ruff, Dave Munsell $25, Janet Hagen $12, $10 each form Charlotte Daniels, Laura Dittrich and Kellie Sloot and $5 from Julie Schmidt and Tina Castillo.
The board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21.
