Klawitter seeks District 15B seat

DFL convention, fundraiser April 18 at Redwood Falls Community Center

Keith Klawitter

MORGAN — Retired Cedar Mountain High School English teacher and coach Keith Klawitter recently announced he is running for the District 15B Minnesota House of Representatives seat.

A 50-year Morgan resident, Klawitter will seek the Democratic Farmer Labor endorsement at the Senate District 15 Convention and Fundraiser Saturday, April 18 at the Redwood Falls Community Center. Registration starts at 9 a.m. The convention begins at 10 a.m.

Newspaper editorial page readers may recall Klawitter’s letters to the editor printed in The Journal and area weekly newspapers.

“It seemed funny at first when former judge Jan Nelson of Redwood Falls drove up my driveway last December and asked me if I’d ever considered running for office,” said Klawitter. “I just laughed at first, but he persisted. Nelson said he saw my letters printed in newspapers .”

He said he’s running for the Minnesota House of Representatives because “too often, people we elect go to St. Paul and end up voting as a rubber stamp for their party and special interests instead of us.”

Klawitter said he’s running because the district deserves real representation by someone who shows up, listens and puts his district first.

“We deserve strong schools, support for our farmers and local businesses, lower costs for working families, and a government that actually delivers for the people it represents,” he said. “I’ll work with anyone–Republican, Democrat, or independent–if means getting something done in this district. I’ve spent my life here. I know the people. I know the work. I know what this district is capable of. We don’t need to be fixed. We need to be represented. And that’s exactly what I intend to do.”

Hanska Republican Paul Torkelson currently holds the District 15B House seat Earlier this year, he announced he will not seek re-election after his eighth term.

Redwood Falls Republican Geri Theis is running for the District 15B House seat in Aug. 11, 2026 primary.

Starting at $4.50/week.
