Residents asked to vote on name of city bus service
After local residents submitted almost 100 nominations for naming the new city bus service in August, the Brown County Transportation Advisory Committee narrowed the selection to three names for the public to vote on by noon, Sept. 13.
“We were impressed by the suggestions,” said Patrick LaCourse, Brown County transit director. “With so many good options, the committee wants the public to have the final vote.”
The three finalists are:
•Hermann Express
•NU Ride
•New Ulm City Transit
Votes can be cast online at co.brown.mn.us/name-the-bus, or in person in drop boxes at New Ulm City Hall, New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce, Brown County Courthouse, Brown County Human Services or the Brown County License Bureau.
The new fixed-route bus route is expected to begin later this fall, with weekday service from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The route will start at Heartland Express offices at the Brown County Licensing Bureau, then travel about an hour before returning to the offices, with numerous convenient stops for riders to access stores and community sites around town.
The city is sponsoring free rides until the end of the year. In 2023, each ride will cost $1 cash.
Heartland Express will continue its demand-response service in addition to operating the fixed route service.
Service updates will be posted on the city website at NewUlmMN.gov.
