NEW ULM — Usually newspaper carriers enjoy receiving extra tips from their customers during the Christmas holiday season, but Isabella Williams was more interested in giving than receiving this year.

Stacey Williams of New Ulm said her daughter Isabella told her she wanted to donate all her Christmas and New Year’s holiday tips from delivering The Journal to the Brown County Humane Society (BCHS).

“She told me she wanted to do some great things with the gifts she got, about $80,” Stacey Williams said.

On Saturday, Isabella, 12, gave a $319 check to the BCHS. Her 10-year-old sister Savanna, also a Journal carrier, donated $60 to the effort. Stacey Williams matched her daughters’ donations.

In addition, the Williams’ donated a box of 90 trash can liners, a large package of paper towels and container of laundry detergent to the humane society.

“Animals make me happy when I’m sad,” Isabella Williams said.

Brown County Humane Society members help abused and helpless animals. Other membership benefits include:

• Offsetting the cost of neutering and spaying animals.

• Providing veterinarian services to injured or sick animals.

• Assisting in providing food, care and housing for unwanted animals.

• Learning how to better care for animals.

In the past six years, the BCHS has adopted out more than 2,500 dogs and cats.
