NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Foundation (NUAF) gave $4,500 to the Friends of German Park Tuesday to help fund the shade structure at the new amphitheater.

A check passing ceremony was held at the top of the amphitheater where the new shade structure will be built.

Park and Recreation Director Tom Schmitz said the entire shade structure would cost $350,000. The state had agreed to fund $300,000 through a bonding bill. The city is working to raise the remaining $50,000. The donation from NUAF will help cover the remaining costs.

Schmitz said the shade structure is schedule for installation in 2022.
