Strong storm buffets area on Saturday

Heavy rains over Saturday night lead to flooding in Lafayette.About six inches of rain fell in the area, flooding local fields as well as the streets and some basements in town.

Rainfall occurred off and on throughout the day Saturday, but turned into a downpour by late evening and a tornado warning was issued for Sibley County. A funnel cloud was spotted north of Gaylord around 6:30 p.m.
A flood warning would remain in effect for parts of Renville, Sibley, Blue Earth, Nicollet, Waseca Redwood and Brown County until Sunday evening. Between 5 and 10 inches of rain fell between Saturday night and Sunday morning along the Minnesota River from Morton to Mankato. Lafayette saw significant rain fall resulting in flooded streets.
