Missing boy believed to have drowned in Blue Earth River

RAPIDAN — Searchers combed the Blue Earth River near the Rapidan Dam on Sunday, looking for a missing 11-year-old boy who is feared to have drowned near Rapidan Dam in Blue Earth County Saturday.

On Saturday, deputies and first responders were dispatched to Rapidan County Park shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday in response to a report of a missing child.

The boy, Denis Funez of Madelia, was swimming in the Blue Earth River with other children and was thought to have been pulled into deeper water by the current. Search efforts were postponed after sunset Saturday and resumed 8 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday’s search was unsuccesful as well, and searchers planned to resume on Monday morning.

Rapidan County Park is closed to the public while the search continues.
