NEW ULM – BMX is back in New Ulm following the reconstruction of the River Valley track at 316 S. Third Street.
Mayor Kathleen Backer, with the assistance of some BMX riders, held a special ribbon-cutting for the revamped course.
Reconstruction of the BMX started in Sept. 2025 and was completed in May. Track operators Brittany and Josh Nosbush, the main idea with the track improvements was safety. The track is overall wider to avoid collisions.
Josh Nosbush said it started with an upgrade to the starting gate, which now has a barrel gate design.
Brittany Nosbush said that, in addition to a wider finishing line, the concrete blocks at the finish line were removed. There was also some additional paving on the track on the turns.

“We wanted to streamline the operation,” Josh Nosbush said. “We now have one building for concession and storage. We also have all new lights. We can host night riding.”
The overall cost of the track improvements is around $200,000. In Nov. 2024, the New Ulm City Council approved a $100,000 interest free loan with a 15-year payback for River Valley BMX.
River Valley BMX hosts races at 7 p.m. every Monday night through the spring, summer and fall. Monday was the first night of BMX racing in New Ulm for the season. Following the ribbon cutting, several of the BMX riders were given the chance to test ride the track before the season’s first race.
Ty Kinsella, a 16-year-old BMX rider from Litchfield, said after text riding the track that it was probably the best one BMX track in Minnesota.
“It has different types of jumps and lines you can run,” he said. “It is great for beginners and experts. It is a really smooth ride.”

Brittany and Josh Nosbush said this was an exciting start for the 2026 BMX season. In addition to the Monday races, River Valley BMX will host a Gold Cup Qualifier on Saturday, June 13, and a State Qualifier on Sunday, June 14.
Park and Recreation Director Joey Schugel attended the ribbon-cutting for the BMX track. He was pleased to see the track back in operation.
He thanked everyone involved with River Valley BMX for their support on this project.
“This does not happen without the continued support of River Valley BMX,” he said.
