BROWN COUNTY–The Brown County Sheriff’s Department is searching for the person or persons who burglarized popular restaurant Carl’s Corner of Essig Wednesday morning.

The theft occurred early Wednesday morning. At 3:36 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of an alarm and burglary at Carl’s Corner.

The first person on the scene noticed forced entry to access the building, but the perpetrator was gone along with cash taken from a charitable gambling box. In addition, three bottles of Bacardi Rum were taken.

The Sheriff’s Office later received a report of a laser level being stolen from a semi parked at a business on Highway 14 near Sleepy Eye. It is unknown if these two incidents are related.

The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the Essig area to contact the Brown County Sheriff’s Office at 507-233-6720.
