NEW ULM — Sometime between 3 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday the public bathrooms at Hermann Heights were trashed by vandals.

The New Ulm Police Department said on social media Wednesday night that the suspects were identified and thanked the public for their help.

The toilet and sink fixtures in the men’s bathroom were torn from the floor and walls, and garbage was strewn across the floor. A city employee tasked with repairing the facility said they were looking at close to $500 worth of damage and the bathroom would likely be out of commission for a week.

The restrooms at Hermann Heights were officially opened for the spring on Tuesday, meaning the bathroom was only open for a few hours before it was vandalized.

Maintenance staff explained the toilet fixture in the bathroom was an older model that is no longer produced, so replacing it will be more difficult. The bathroom’s entire plumbing might need to be redone.

Repairs will be further delayed since maintenance crews are still working to ready other facilities throughout New Ulm for the spring season.

Starting at $4.50/week.
