Court Proceedings

Brown County District Court

• A misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge was filed April 27, 2023 against Shane A. Peterson, 36, Richfield. According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police Chief Matt Andres was patrolling with officer Taylor Bolinger at 6:40 a.m. April 25 when they were called by Expressway gas station manager Christine Kotten who said Peterson was recently in the business and was “very animated and wild, confronting numerous customers and angered some.” Kotten said at least one customer was lost due to Peterson’s behavior and she asked him to leave the property.

A short time later, police were called by Dean Mathiowetz, an Expressway customer who was upset and concerned about the safety of the town and himself due to Peterson’s “abusive and directly combative” behavior.

Police then got a call from Brown County Dispatch about a 911 call describing a male, described like Peterson, running around the library, digging through dumpsters and digging up grass. The caller voiced concern about the man having “issues.”

Chief Andres drove to the library and Peterson ran away, crossing Main Street. Chief Andres told Peterson to come to him, he complied and was arrested. Peterson asked officers to grab his things that included a garbage bag of old Subway bread he got from a dumpster, and a coat from landscaping outside the library.

Peterson was checked for weapons before being placed in the squad car. A plastic bottle of what appeared to be urine was in his possession. Peterson verified it was urine but would not say why he had it. Peterson said he was withdrawing from a drug and needed to be seen at Sleepy Eye Medical Center. He was transported to the medical center, then to the Brown County Jail after he was cleared from the medical center.

Starting at $4.50/week.
