Kid on bus should be the one punished

To the editor: I was very disappointed when I read the article in the Journal a few weeks ago about the Sleepy Eye School bus driver being charged with malicious punishment of a child and 5th degree assault. The incident involved a kid on the bus tripping other kids on the bus and not stopping or changing his behavior when the bus driver told him to stop. When he didn’t this “child” of a football player should have been told to get off the bus. But, instead the driver only pushed his legs out of the aisle so he could not trip any more kids and put his hands on the kid’s ...

In response to December 9 editorial

To the editor: The week of December 3/4, Matt Tiabbi, formerly with Rolling Stone, with the approval of new Twitter owner Elon Musk, released the “Twitter Papers.” They confirmed that what some of what Twitter outright censored was at the urging of political campaigns and government. The First Amendment prevents government restrictions on free speech. Government, however, did not hesitate to lobby to suppress what it deemed objectionable. And they often did. Thursday, Dec. 8, Bari Weiss, formerly with the New York Times, dropped part two of the “Twitter Papers.” They ...

Community thank you

To the editor: It’s a wrap. The 34th New Ulm Community Thanksgiving Dinner wrapped up with one of the largest attendance ever. Our count showed that we served just over 1,200 meals this year. With 600 dining, the rest were in take outs and home deliveries. We ran out of pie and corn and had a little extra in potatoes, stuffing and cranberries this year. Our donations met our expenses this year and we are always relieved when that happens. We want to be sure to thank all the volunteers who step up every year to make this event possible. They work so hard and care so much to make ...

Use your blessings to protect your freedom

To the editor: Jesus is the reason for the season called Christmas when Jesus was born, thus we celebrate His birth on 12-25 which is a sacred holiday for believers and followers of Christ! It is disgusting and heartbreaking to observe anyone or groups displaying disdain and hatred towards Christians with continuous persecution and slaughter of them in many nations. Why is this acceptable? If any other group was so targeted, there would be major protests and outrage in the streets. Yet, in the U.S., folks seem to care more about Black Friday and all their shopping deals, planning ...

Changes to the U.S. political system

To the editor: The United States needs to limit terms for the Senate, Congress, and President to six years with a one term limit. No reelections. Serve your State or Nation and return to private citizenship after your service. Many countries in Europe and Asia also limit political campaigns to two months with some only allowing two weeks for candidates to make their pitch to voters such as in France. Can you image how refreshing that would be instead of months and months and months of non-stop negative advertising mostly by political action committees? Representation should not be a ...
