Changes to the U.S. political system

To the editor: The United States needs to limit terms for the Senate, Congress, and President to six years with a one term limit. No reelections. Serve your State or Nation and return to private citizenship after your service. Many countries in Europe and Asia also limit political campaigns to two months with some only allowing two weeks for candidates to make their pitch to voters such as in France. We just got done voting one week ago with Mid-Terms and now the presidential race for 2024 begins. MNHS works to illuminate history

To the editor: As public historians, we work to illuminate history by pulling back the curtain. We do so through the studied work of a historian – not through a political nor activist lens. Historians welcome debate, and not every point asserted in a discussion about history is accurate. The assertion made by Katherine Kersten as reported in the Oct. 28 article, “Kersten says activists rewriting history,” that Minnesota Historical Society has “led” any such campaign is just one of many inaccuracies. To the editor: My family and I want to thank the citizens of Brown County for your vote on Nov. 8. It has been an honor to serve as your Sheriff for the last four years. A memorable Veterans Day

To the editor: Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is also my wife Mary’s birthday (as well as her sister Nancy’s). It’s become something of a tradition for us to go to George’s Fine Steaks and Spirits for dinner that night. Last Friday night we arrived at 6 p.m. Quite a crowd on hand so we had to sit at the bar for a short while. I took a seat next to a young man wearing an Army hat. I had on my Vietnam Veteran hat. We struck up a conversation. A very friendly young guy, there alone. An Afghanistan vet, I learned. After dinner, we did a quick calculation. Our bill would be somewhere on ...

Green Lights for Veterans Day

To the editor: I would like provide an update to the Operation Green Light for Veterans program. I realize some of you may have been lighting your green lights for some hours at night (maybe even 24 hours a day) since November 7th. That’s great! Veterans Day (November 11th), I plan to turn on my green light for 24 hours, or at least until daylight on Saturday. I’m inviting you to do the same. The next day on the calendar to light your “Green Light for Veterans” would be December 7th (Pearl Harbor Day). Thanks again for all your support! Tony Miller New Ulm
