Kid on bus should be the one punished
To the editor:
I was very disappointed when I read the article in the Journal a few weeks ago about the Sleepy Eye School bus driver being charged with malicious punishment of a child and 5th degree assault. The incident involved a kid on the bus tripping other kids on the bus and not stopping or changing his behavior when the bus driver told him to stop.
When he didn’t this “child” of a football player should have been told to get off the bus. But, instead the driver only pushed his legs out of the aisle so he could not trip any more kids and put his hands on the kid’s shoulder and again told the poor child to stop it. The driver should have been thanked by all the players on the bus and parents of those players. Tripping and shoving someone on a bus could cause serious injury.
The student told his mommy he was scared for about five seconds after the incident. He should have been afraid of getting the whooping he deserved from his mom or dad. All the kids on the bus should have been questioned, not just the three that the kid had time to get the stories straight.
I hope the bus company doesn’t ever allow that kid back on any of their buses again. This incident is a great example of what has gone wrong in our society today. The lesson this child takes away is that there’s no consequences for bad behavior. And, worse, those in authority can be penalized for doing the right thing,
